@EISAlaska4 жыл бұрын
Hi Scott! Probably around 150 lbs on our boat. We generally don't fish in the areas with huge fish, they seem to like rocky shallows near the kelp beds. This was a beautiful day on the water! Snails are mollusks.
@michaelshotts64823 жыл бұрын
Larger fish dont have the meat quality, bigger fish are sometimes chalky and parasites can be more likely with biger, older fish. I will point out that finding parasites has nothing to do with handling, bottom dwelling fish just sometimes have them.

How do you maintain position during hauling? Using the tide or engine power? Or does it not matter?

Reverse gear on the engine if we are being pushed against it. Lots of the time we can lay it so we drift down while we haul.

What do you mean by 5% by catch on the rock fish?
@EISAlaska4 жыл бұрын
Hi Carter. Some species due to abundance do not have directed fisheries, so we get to keep a percentage of the target species as bycatch. For cod it is 20% and rockfish 5%, so for every 1000 pounds round weight of halibut onboard, we can keep 200 pounds cod and 50 pounds rockfish.
@TheBeaker594 жыл бұрын
Just to add to that the purpose is to reduce waste some fish will die when released so a small by catch is allowed so that those fish can be used.
