Picking Boats by the Side of the Road - What Does $4.8K to $229K Get You?

Charles Dickens once famously remarked, "it was the best of times, it was the worst of times." Now anytime I'm driving around looking at boats, believe me, it's the best of times for me, but the famous line by Mr. Dickens here relates to prices. We were lucky enough to look at 5 boats on this May Spring day in Eastern Long Island. The cheapest was a just under $5k classic Mako walk-around. The most expensive was a $224K Jupiter 34 with 3 other boats mixed in for fun.

I worked at POE about 7 years ago and have moved that Jupiter around, both with the forklift and in the water. Cool boat for sure.

Kevlar hull is what you were looking for on the HS 2450. Love those boats. And yes, my understanding is that Aquasport does use their hull design now but have heard fit/finish is not what HS used to be.

I fished the Baltimore canyon on a 38 Jupiter, twin f350's, a few years ago. Sweet Boat!! The boat had plenty of room and rode great.

That mako would be a good project. New yammie or zuk 200 , gas tank , electronics. Probably $30k, but good all around rig for North fork fishing

The last boat looked decent but upholstery is expensive as I found out. I’m also a cautious person so new tires right off the bat. Just pointing out the areas where I’d negotiate.

Hey John, what transducer did you go with. I did 2 on my new boat. B175HW and B175M, great set up. Boat came with a b150 that I removed and 12 Garmin screens. Good luck with your new boat

Like the hydra sport I have a 2003 250 hpdi had some issues with ethanol in beginning once i got the filters down pat .engine runs like a beast and very economical. Upholstery can get done by copy cat marine Upholstery in Florida by mail I did mine that way very budget friendly.some elbow grease and know how u got a great boat.would like to know hours and year of engine and compression first .sounds like price is negotiable a plus also.👍
