"God of Less", yes. I absolutely love Jil Sander the brand. I love what Luke and Lucie have been doing. But I don't know a lot about Jil Sander the person. Thank you for this video. Where did you learn about her? What I found most fascinating is how early on she started and how clear she was about her vision. I recently watched a video which implied that Rei and Yohji came first and she was just following in their footsteps. But she was set in her distinct vision and producing it long before the rest of the fashion world was ready for it. Thank you for the lovely videos.

She is truely the manifestation of Less and Quality. I usually get my infos from several sources, usually old interviews and magazines. I know its a common peculiarity to discuss who did it first and who influenced whom. I also love this game. But in her case, i just appreciate her visionary mindset and trendless perspectivety she helped us all with.

Thank you for making this video. I suppose the extreme discretion is very on brand for her, but we literally don’t know that much about her so it’s great that more people get to know about how pioneering her work was. When you look at her work during the 90s, it felt like she was defining what modern dressing is. Most of those looks look current now. She is indeed a god. It’s just a shame that the extremely limited distribution and the fact that the expression of her vision was cut short by Bertelli basically denied everyone the chance to fully enjoy her philosophy. It was great that she returned back in 2013, no matter how short that stint was. I don’t think the way fashion, with its emphasis on numerous collections and pandering to social media and the mass market, is set up right now matches what she stands for, and as much as I don’t want to admit it, the +J brand and it’s low price point limits what she has to say. I wish that she comes back, in one form or another, to create incredible luxury pieces, just like it was in the 90s, but on her own terms. The highest quality (with price points to match), uncompromising expression of purism and the future, eschewing the traditional fashion calendar, just coming out with new garments when she feels things need readjustment to fit the zeitgeist. This way, she doesn’t feel overwhelmed like she did whenever she came back to her eponymous brand - bottom line, she should have full control. In this age of the louder, the tackier the better, the distribution would obviously be very limited but honestly, her purposeful, quality over quantity consumption approach is the fashion blueprint that we need for the future and for those who love and subscribe to her ethos, her voice is needed now more than ever.

Her philosophy is very much aligned with the Bauhaus School (which also had its origins in Germany) and their belief in less is more and rejection of ornamentation. Their designs look incredibly contemporary and relevant today, 100 years later!

I can tell how much you admire Jil by how you talked about her and her work. Appreciate your thoughts on this! Her decision to stick to her vision in spite of the state of fashion in the 70s is admirable. I wonder how she reacted when the 90s came and brought about what she had been designing that whole time.

I'm very intrigued about the story of this Jil Sander quality. I've never had an opportunity to inspect any pieces from her time. I did purchase a few items from Raf Simons time (not runway) and was not impressed with the quality then.

I have to say, i have rarely seen better craftsmanship. This is definetely due the house itself, but i also guess the Meiers put special effort in it. Not sure about Raf, but can imagine him not putting quality first maybe

That streetware couple at Jil Sander are destroying the brand concept, making commercial clothes almost undistinguishable from fast fashion brands like Zara. Such a pitty and a shame.
