The Gabra are divided into 5 clans and they each perform jilla galani ceremony,
which is the greatest among the Gabra people. This ceremony is performed after
every 14 years and provides a sense of continuity, as the people trace back their
routes to the same places where their ancestors performed rituals. Each of the five
clans has a special place where they perform the jilla.
The Algana perform at Gobso, west of Mega; the Gara perform at Melbana, east of
Mega the Sharbana perform at Naqayo, near Gobso; the Galbo move to the northern
side of Forole Mountain- all this in southern Ethiopia, It's Only the Odola clan who
perform their pilgrimage within the borders of Kenya.
