Dear Pat, thank you for giving me so much information about Anne Lister‘s secret life as lesbian, living from 1791 to 1840. I have read the first book from Helena Whitbread and looking forward to reading a book from Jill Liddington. I am totally fascinated by her quiet a lot how Anne Lister had mastered her life and specially traveling within Europe and to Russia. Amazing woman, so intelligent and autodidact in teaching herself numerous things, like languages and even an instrument. I am sure there are now so many code breakers who will eventually published some more books of the hidden and secret life of Anne Lister. Maybe find some script from Ann Walker. Who knows? Some day, I am certain that the love between Mariana Lawton and Anne Lister might find their way to the public! Dear Pat, it just fantastic how much effort is put into making it worldwide known who Anne Lister was and your contribution is playing a key roll too. As Rose arcane said, I believe they were running away. But I haven’t seen this addressed in all the books and presentations. Maybe I’ve missed it. And Paris yes, it could have been a great solution.

The 2 women left out of fear for their lives. I believe Ann Lister would have eventually been arrested for indecency. I just wish they had gone to Paris. They would have lived a long culture filled existence. Lister stayed way too long in Georgia and I believe she may have been looking for proof of Amazon existence in the area. Has there been any code word meaning Amazon discovered in the archives?

Agree I believe she was looking for something. Hitler sent out teams all over the World also seeking proof of .... a secret history.

If this is about A & A going to Russia, it was time to get out of town (1) because they were both depressed because not all of Anne's plans were panning out, and (2) and Anne always wanted to go to Russia, so that was a journey not unlike other trips they took. Anne just needed to get away.

Sorry, I just discovered a page in Packed with Potential that does address this, but it’s mostly about Ann’s state of mind. Which was in fact a threat, if the family had discovered it.
