I liked this performance, but let's remember that it was Jill who always complained about how "the sport is about more than just jumps," a direct jab at Ito obviously. Ito never once complained about winning both the short and free programs here and still getting 2nd due to the figures. I think Ito always showed great class, unlike some of her jealous competitors.

And I think the judges unfairly classified Midori as only being a great athlete. She wasn’t balletic but damn it, she was such a spirited and engaging performer. It wasn’t just about the jumps; her programs were very enjoyable to watch. But even if we are only looking at athleticism, Midori was light years ahead the field back then. She was out of this world

Dont quite understand the point jill was always lovely the sport has always been especially during that time a combination of technical merit and artistry jill was always wonderful sometimes she missed a few jumps like this program however OVERALL she was lovely and a great champion and she was also always classy and a LADY unlike many that were little girls anyway interesting perspective!

I think commentators sometimes forget one of their most important jobs. Cranston needs to explain himself when he says she might have lost the championship on the combination. The uneducated viewer won't know what's wrong with it.

I have no idea why the CBC didn't show Yamaguchi's program. After all, she did finish 2nd to Ito. They also didn't show the live marks. It's annoying to hear Toller Cranston talk about Yamaguchi's difficult program and not be able to actually see it!

Compulsory figures era, please remember this important factor.

YES a different time and although jill missed the combination here doing a double double instead of the INTENDED triple double the rest of the program was lovely overall and she was deducted for the technical error

@grantnoroyan4083 Correct, but the compulsory figures will always be a factor during these performances and period of competitions. There is also another factor at play here, one of the existing but not discussed, and that is Jill Trenary and her coach Fassi, were the ones clearly being guided this time around.

Yikes…i cannot recall another world champ in the last 3 decades who won the champ with a double toe loop+double toe loop combo…. Her winning was so wrong!

Midori probably can skate this program when she was 8 years old. This Trenary is a complete joke. I hope you read this comment Jill.
