Dear jillee, I’m an old woman learning to draw and paint. I’ve been watching your videos for a few weeks now. You have taught me so much about art and life! Such a young philosopher. From your work I have learned to appreciate my own efforts and to complete even the worst efforts lest I miss the learning opportunities they offer. I find many of your “sketches” more compelling and beautiful than the “reference”-perhaps because they embody the essence of your beautiful spirit. Thank you so much

I’ve been watching your videos for a few days as I sketch and I really appreciate all the things you said in this one about mistakes and the process and how it is the same with life. It is something we need to hear from time to time. 🌸

I just discovered your channel a few days ago and I love your approach and the content you're creating. It's calm, steady and to the point. and there's no music, seriously, THANK YOU for not putting annoying music in your videos.

I watch your videos almost daily now. I am 64 years old and a calligrapher since I was 15. Just recently started doing watercolor, in the last two years or so. Your technique and approach is lovely, and your work is beautiful. I have learned so much from you! I also love the music in the background and your voice is very soothing. Well done, you! -left handed Yvonne from Massachusetts

Thank you for sharing, Jillie. It is refreshing to find an artist who is honest with their art. We all make mistakes, and the way you embrace them is the best way to show learning artist that even mistakes can produce beautiful art.. Ps What is the pink stand you are using to prop your book, please

I saw the finished product first and if we didn’t see the reference photo, we would not be aware of errors. It turned out great. We can have a copy of the photo or your rendering…hand drawn and colored. Yours gave me hope that i myself could capture the essence of something in an urban sketch. Thank you.

Drawing the lines without tracing gives those lines life. It gives them a quality that cannot be replicated tracing. You can see the difference. It is what makes it art, authentic.

I often make ink lines before the watercolor wash too. Despite I'm not confident 😅, but it helps to become more confident with each new one. Because you see that mistakes are not the end of the world and every time there is a way to deal with them

Jillee, I think what draws me to your watercolor is the density and complexity of the application of paint. There is so much going on in each piece. They remind me of oil paintings in a way--under each brush stroke are two or three others. And by the way, I'm also a fan of quirky line drawings as opposed to precise architectural-like renderings.

Hi, thanks so much for sharing this! I want to get better at drawing loose & quickly. That's why I'm drawing mostly in pen these days so I can't fix my mistakes and just run with them. But my lines always end up messy because I keep fixing them anyway haha. Anyway, your vidoes re so calming & inspring as someone who just got into drawing. I appreciate your explanations sprinked throught the drawing process. Have you ever thought of doing of a video where you draw while doing a Q&A focused on your art journey -- like how you got into it, what kind of education you received? Just an idea :) Thanks again for the amazing videos ❣

Can you share a video of how you maintain your Lamy pen with the waterproof ink? I would like to start using water proof ink in my Lamy pen, such as Noodler's or Octopus, but I'm afraid of it clogging.
