To start my Viking Age cloth reconstruction project, I will comb to separate a double coated fleece. I have an Icelandic lamb fleece and two sets of combs: Valkyrie Fine and a larger set of Indigo Hound with curved tines. Which one will work best to separate these coats of wool? Extant cloth from the Viking Age shows us that the inner and outer coats of double coated sheep were spun and used separately as warp and weft in woven cloth. So to weave my cloth for this project, we have to start by separating the tog and thel of this Icelandic fleece.
