@@cfitness8943 Yeah but how are you gonna get a calorie deficit if you don't exercise? Of course if you have a job where you walk a lot, or you generally walk a lot then it works, but if you'd be sitting on the couch all day doing nothing and eating the amount you're supposed to eat, you won't lose weight. That's what she means with it's 80% exercise. Because if you don't move at all you won't lose weight. Even if "only" burn 300 kcal extra a day by working or doing whatever you do, it will still take you a long time to lose a pound or two.

@@JillianMichaels why I have ever tried anything besides listening to you is a mystery. The only thing is that I don't like counting calories. I don't like having to get out my phone or piece of paper to write everything down. Overall I love eating healthy food and whole grains and things of that nature. I don't really care for dairy or heavy meat. My main problem is I don't think I eat enough for how much I work out. I work out really hard just because I love to feel strong and accomplish. And at 194 lb and 5/7 I look best when I'm about 165 and feel best at that way. So here I am with 30 more pounds to lose from after I had my son and have never gotten down past 181 and seven years since I had a baby. So I know it's diet because my problem area is my belly.

Stretch marks are normal, everybody has them, there's nothing to be ashamed of. They are a result of a change, we all through change, be it weight gain and then loss, pregnancy or a growth spurt. Never been overweight or pregnant, but I have stretch marks, they are from my growth spurt. Some of them have started to fade, I grew to my full length, 175cm, in 6 grade and I grew fast. The ones on my shoulder blades, arms and knees are mostly gone, the bigger ones on my knees can still be seen. Because my chest and hips grew later, the stretch marks on them are visible and prominent. People are always surprised that I have stretch marks and they just thought theirs were a result of their weight. It's just life, both men and women have them. They are like any other scar, they tell a story.

I lose more when I don't exercise. My appetite is more controllable when I'm not running or lifting heavy weights. Current science says that while exercising builds muscle and that helps with fat burning, breathing out more than you breathe in is also key which is why people who meditate a bunch and never exercise stay so thin. Melted fat is exhaled, not sweated out. Count to 4 to breathe in through the nose and 8 count for the exhale.

I still use some of her older workouts (I exercise 5 days a week, and have been doing it quite regularly for years, and her Killer Abs videos still "kill" me, lol). She's just awesome and smart. I turned 42 a few days ago and if I'm still into fitness and staying healthy to date, despite my office job, I owe it to her. I never needed to lose weight, but I needed motivation to have a healthy, active life. Her words and fierce attitude just changed me to the core years ago and made me feel like I'm capable of anything I set my mind on, IF I do it the right way, and if I'm also capable of accepting and loving myself regardless, while doing the best I can. Thank you Jillian!! ❤️🤘🏻

I tried doing like 1,300 calories a day for a couple of weeks and was always exhausted and couldn’t get through my workouts. I bumped it up to around 1,600 -1,700 and I’m still losing the weight much faster because I was putting way more energy into my workouts! And back in college, I was struggling with anorexia, I was pretty much always sedentary aside from walking to and from class and I just wasn’t losing the weight, I felt lousy and didn’t have energy to even walk. So yeah, definitely works better to eat more and have the energy to exercise more with better nutrients in your system than it is to starve yourself.

Attempting Anonymity 1800 sounds perfect and I’m 5’10” so I can get away with the 100-200 less than you lol But yeah, if either of us did 1300 for a prolonged time period, we’d both be dead 😂😵
@Nameless_mixes
@Nameless_mixes 4 жыл бұрын
Attempting Anonymity I know. It does suck. But hopefully they understand that you can make the same caloric deficit by eating properly and exercising regularly as you would by starving yourself for multiple days. Not to mention that your metabolism slows down when you fast. So starving actually takes longer than being healthy (and it’s way more painful...).
@Nameless_mixes
@Nameless_mixes 4 жыл бұрын
Attempting Anonymity Fasting/juicing definitely helps to remove any food stuck in your body, reduce water weight, etc and helps you feel refreshes. That’s part of why people fast for religious purposes. They believe the feeling afterwards is a reward for their work. So doing two 24 hour intervals a month maximum of fasting can help refresh you. But consistent or prolonged fasting depletes you of the nutrients your body needs to function. All three macromolecules are used by the body, and depriving yourself is never a good option. And intermittent fasting works much better than 24 hour or longer fasts because your body is being trained to know when to increase its metabolism so your food intake is metabolized much more efficiently. So I would always suggest that over starving yourself. But your body
@Nameless_mixes
@Nameless_mixes 4 жыл бұрын
Attempting Anonymity Not all of the food you eat leaves the body at once. Chyme can get stuck in the intestines. That’s why it’s important to have fiber in your diet because it has an affinity for those molecules and grabs it along the way. You feel refreshed because all of the junk stuck in your GI track has been removed so you feel lighter and more energetic. If you wanna do it because you feel like it makes you feel better, then by all means, that’s your prerogative. But I’m not just spewing a bunch of random theories/nonsense. I have a strong background in health, fitness, nutrition, anatomy, and physiology. You can make up your own mind, but I would never give dieting advice without any scientific backing.

Adis Kiros It has taken me lots of trial and error to find the right exercises for me. I discovered HITT workouts worked best for weightloss! I was also diagnosed with IBS, and I had to adjust my already healthy diet. I discovered that a big reason why I have always struggled with weightloss was because my body couldn't digest certain foods (and slowed down my metabolism). Also, I count calories because if I don't I over or under eat (plus I have to pay attention to what I eat due to my restrictive diet). I make sure that I eat balanced macronutrient meals and exercise weekly even if its just pilates. Its honestly just a lot of consistency and not giving up even when you have a set back (: Are you trying to lose weight too?

I’ve lost 11lbs so far doing a 16:8 fast. But the fasting has been so I close my eating window, stop snacking, & create better habits and making better food choices. It also helped detox from all the processed sugar & refined carbs. What has also helped with the weight loss is exactly how Jillian said, low impact movement with high intensity training added during the week. Lastly, staying consistent with making better choices. We’ve proven consistency isn’t our issue because we can consistently choose to eat like crap. So we have to reframe & consistently choose to make better choices. It’s not easy but it’s not impossible.

So, just for the record, I lost around 30 pounds a few years ago and have successfully kept it off with almost no exercise at all. I walk for a half hour after dinner. Not saying that is ultimate health, by any means; just saying that exercise actually plays a pretty nonexistent role in weight loss, at least for those of us over 50. I did lose it very slowly (on purpose, actually), by just cutting a little of what I was eating every day, and occasional intermittent fasting. I wanted to do something completely sustainable, and it has worked for me... no regain.

You can do either but with the reduced calorie needs as we get older I find burning more rather than cutting more is easier and of course it is so good for your health. I can still eat over 2000 calories a day in my sixties as a female. I run, I lift and I walk and swim. You get such a boost from all that.

This year I decided to get back into my pre-covid shape. I'm a 56 year old male. The way I approached it was as follows. Basically I keep my daily calorie intake at no more than 2000. And I spend 3 days a week at the gym (2.5hrs per). A mix of 30 minutes of high intensity cardio, 90 minutes of weights, and 30 minutes of walking interspersed between exercises. My goal is between 3000-3500 calories burned per day. I've read some meta studies that indicate the maximum number of fat calories that someone can burn without burning muscle is 31 calories per pound of body fat. So as I've started losing weight, I've started increasing calorie intake slightly to reduce the calorie deficit, primarily by adding more protein to my diet.

Hi Jillian! Love the video! I have lost 20 pounds in 2 months, my BMI went from 28 to 24.4. I have been doing your DVD 30 day shred (that my mom bought forevee ago) 5 - 6 days a week and adding some other fun short workouts from KZbin. It Is the first time that I commit to working out for so long lol. I changed my diet. Portion control is the key for me, I eat around 1500-1800 kcal a day. Intuitive eating has also helped me. Im really happy with the results. I want to make this sustainable, and avoid yoyo dieting. I love your workouts, and I'll keep doing them until I reach my goal. 20 lbs more to go.

Heard of you in the past but was almost against you cause you were a celebrity. NOW IM A TRUE BELIEVER. 5 days later 1500 a day, 500 cal intentional low easy cardio walking a day burned: im down a few pounds. Although ive understood this will be a journey of a lot of months im praying for patients and persistance because I will change my body and my habits. So all this to say THANK YOU.

I was 400lbs in 2011 and one day it just clicked and I changed my life. Started with 30 Day Shred and could barely do 5 minutes at first but I did it daily and changed my diet to just healthy foods. Lost 100lbs real quickly within a year. Took a second year to lose another 50lbs. Now it’s taken another 7 years to lose another 50. I workout daily. I eat really healthy. It’s been a lifestyle change.. I sure as heck havent been on a diet for 9 years. You have to change your life and it’s never over. PS: I have galah too and I was shocked when yours appeared! 💜

We live in a world of everything has to happen ‘now’ and let’s ignore the actual science and hang our collective hats on a half a teaspoon of tumeric and a mouthful of chilli will drop you 10 kilos in an hour and half. 👍🏻💪🏻 Do the graft, eat healthily and get over what certain elements of the media are ramming into your retinas as body perfect and just do you. Keep at it. Lockdown love handles though - the struggle is real!

I’ve been through so many different ideas of thought surrounding weight loss, and all of them have specifically targeted my diet first. The problem always ended up being that my diet really wasn’t bad, but I wasn’t MOVING enough! I’m a mom of four, so it honestly feels like I’m going all day (and I am), but it wasn’t meaningful exercise. I’ve started walking a few miles a day along with my strength program I’ve been doing. Suddenly the pounds have been falling off. I’m so grateful you’ve been putting out these videos! Too many people tell you to just deprive yourself of food. It’s such dangerous advice, and it can be so crippling to those of us who are eating clean and in a deficit but still not seeing results. Thank you for all you do!

This is truly solid advice. I think what a lot of people are missing is that you don't NEED all the other gimmicks. Intermittent fasting, keto, Atkins -- that stuff doesn't not work, but it's UNECESSARY. Doing what she's suggesting will get you great sustained benefits without the mental strain of sticking to such strict regimens. Watch what you eat, get the heart rate up, work those muscles and your weight loss will be steady and probably a lot more enjoyable.

I've always been a fan. This method is what I use too. I just recently lost my quarantine 15 using the 1200 calorie max, healthier diet in general, more water and high energy aerobics with some weights and low intensity cardio like 2-3 miles walks in the evenings. 5-6 days a week. 6 weeks later 16.5 lbs down 😊

@@bellarosa009 definitely trying to stay at a max 1200 calories. For breakfast or early lunch hard boiled eggs, turkey bacon and fruit, a low cal lunch and snack around 4 then sautéed veggies and protein for dinner, either chicken, lean pork, steak or shrimp. Veggies portions are more than the meat. Lots of water all day. Coffee in the morning and not very much alcohol at all, but if I do have a drink its a White Claw. Those are only 100 calories, so I love them. I try to do 60 minutes of exercise per day minimum 5 days a week. So far so good. I'm just happy I fit into my clothes again and feeling good. Good luck!

Hi Jillian, I often times hear people say that the older you get the more difficult it is to lose weight. I know in other videos you talk about calories in and calories out, and working out. Is this whole idea that "if you are older it will be much more difficult to lose weight" true? I'm 33 now and I definitely do see that it's been more difficult for me even when I count calories, am I doing something wrong? Thank you for sharing such great informative videos I truly do appreciate it.
