Mini Dives are a sporadically published series where Jim gets into the weeds with his process.
In this “Mini Dive” I talk about using voice memos to record and collaborate. I use voice memos all the time as a demo tool. But for some reason I’ve never thought of using them on a session for an album. It turns out shockingly well.

I know right?! Things are so much easier now. I mean, everyone has $1000 computer in their pocket now. I’m actually surprised there aren’t interfaces to run mics so you can record multiple tracks and mix on a virtual board from your phone. (Or in GarageBand). I mean, even GarageBand is amazing software for free. Kids these days have no idea what it’s like to try to bounce tracks down from a four track cassette recorder.
