Great looking Jim Bacon, a variety I currently don't have. Great video, looking forward to the future taste test versus the regular Bacon Avocado. Thanks to sharing!

Jim Bacon sounds like a great variety. You picked out a nice and healthy tree. I bet it's happy now to be able to stretch out and grow.

I should have put it into the ground earlier, better late then never. It was so small when I got it in April but judging by how root bound it was, it definitely needed to go into the ground. Thanks for watching and supporting!

Got a Mexicola tree back in spring with flowers on it. They fell off shortly after I put it in the ground, but it has the flower buds forming now as well. Just noticed them last week. Thanks for the updates.

I check my Mexicola just now and the fruit from last week's video is still on there. We'll see if it continues to stick. Good luck with yours, maybe we'll both get some off season Mexicola fruit. Thanks for watching!

Jim Bacon essentially taste like really good Bacon. From what I have seen up here in the bay area the tree seems smaller than Bacon. Another cool thing about Jim is up here they turn red. Both are very reliable and of course known as good pollinators. The funny thing about Bacon is I have relatives who are not big cado fans but do like Bacon probably because most commercial varieties have too much oil for their taste buds.

Hi there Greg...I'm interested to try it eventually. What's crazy is this little tree flowered and fruited this spring. A lot set but most dropped. There are still a couple so maybe I'll get a chance to try it this year. Thanks for watching!

@@AvocadoTalk 5 months and already fruiting? That is impressive! Up here they always say Bacon is probably our most reliable variety and it seems Jim Bacons are no different. Actually my young Jim Bacon which was smaller than yours had fruitlets too.

Nice to see next tree going in! I am observing an off bloom on my Hass trees in Vista and My Queen in San Jose. Apparently it’s not all that rare in Hass at least and in Mexico I just learned they call it the “Loca” bloom. I’m sure you know in 1986 Mr. Carlos Mendez discovered a mutated Hass in his Hass Grove that regularly had the off Bloom. Avocado oligarch Hank Brokaw patented it in 1997 and that of course is the Carmen Hass. I’m trying to determine how many Carmen to stuff into my property as the off bloom is great thing - IF you can get the damn tree to behave properly as it seems to be very climate dependent getting the off bloom. I’ve put 3 Carmen in ground this year and debating on about 4-6 more for SP 22 planting.
@AvocadoTalk
@AvocadoTalk 2 жыл бұрын
I too am excited for my Carmen, have 2 and thinking I should get more also. Would like to get one from Brokaw since the 2 that I got was from a local nursery so unsure how they obtained them. Thanks for watching!

You should put more in if you have room. Look at it this way, we are putting in so much work with all these trees we better sure as hell get heavy production - so I’m hedging my bets with a large amount of Reed, Carmen, Lamb and gambling with Fuerte.
@AvocadoTalk

@@SVmathfarmer gambling with Fuerte, that's me right now, feels like it might be problematic with yellowing leaves. Could be the eucalyptus around it. Need another Nabal for sure.

I have a 5g from this summer, it's pushing new buds. It has tip burn. Your leaves look nice do you use filtered water in your staging area?
@AvocadoTalk
@AvocadoTalk 2 жыл бұрын
Nope just City water, it was underneath a huge jacaranda tree so mid day sun protection helped. Also I think my water doesn't have much salts but very hard so that's part of the reason I have yellowing of leaves on some trees.

Hi: I heard bacon grow big. Dont you think that if a person is looking for a compact tree (such as myself), that a bacon might be too big? thx.
@AvocadoTalk
@AvocadoTalk 2 жыл бұрын
Hi there, pros and cons for all avocado trees. Bacon and Jim Bacon both grow large with the right conditions. If you are looking for a smaller tree, go with a GEM avocado. There are other varieties that are small also like Gwen, Esther and others... On another note, you can keep a tree small by topping it, that's my plan with my bacon. So far it's been very productive. Thanks for watching!

@@AvocadoTalk the jim bacon is a vigorous healthy growing im amazed how large it grew to 7 ft tall in 2 summers from a 5 gallon it handles frost well in california we get these 20-40 yr frost events where all frost sensitive Avocado die, hass, reed, nabal, except the mexican type bacon, mexicola , these are the only types that can be grown productively and reliably in california imho, I have 2 lemon bottlebrush planted as wind block in the eucalptus family that nothing grows under, toxic leaves Cant use leaves as mulch, barren unfertile soil dry under neath worms Will no go near eucalptus so the soil never improves but they serve as good windbreak ive read that a pesticide won derived synthetically from a chemical in the leaves that is toxic to bugs and plants
