@@ocneal from envy. The two nurseries that might have Jan Boyce in northern California are either always sold out or only have larger trees out of my budget. I have Reed, Holiday, Sir Prize, and a Hass I've repotted and am trying to save. My other hobby is fig trees.

It is impossible to find a GEM in the Central Coast Area. There was one nursery that wanted $300 for a 15 gal size one. Way out of my price range. Do you know of any nurseries that carry them in my area or within an hour or so? Maddock seems to sell them at reasonable prices, but it's too far away.

That might be a good price for a 15 gallon. You just don’t see those that size here. I don’t know of any others there. Sorry

Man I drove about an hour and a half each way (from Thousand Oaks) down to Laguna Hills nursery to pick up top pot soil. I would’ve been so pissed off if they were out of stock. I tried calling multiple times to verify they had stock but nobody would answer the phone even during business hours. I really wish Gary would distribute this out to other nurseries to the north

They are harder to find. The growers love them.

Interesting that you want your GEM to grow in all different directions. This is kind of defeating one of the benefits we commercial growers look for in a GEM. We like to let them grow as they naturally tend to do, straight up, like a Christmas tree. This allows us to do high density planting with them. Good luck with your trees, and thank you for promoting the GEM fruit.
@TheElsinoreGardener3 жыл бұрын
The tree in the ground may not be a GEM. I bought it in 2018 from a grower that may have misled people they had the GEM before others. That’s what I have learned. I know other people who think the same. The other Gems are real. They grow more like they should.

Scott, I’m on my way to Laguna Hills Nursery as I write. I’ve potted some avocado seedlings that I grew. On some of them, the leaves are turning brown and wilting. I used 100% Gary’s TopPot. Do you think I’m overwatering them? I never let the pot dry out. In Anaheim the past couple months, I’ve been watering them every other day. Thanks.

I did buy trees from them. I will see this year if they are real Gems. There is a big fruit set starting on it. I got 6 avocados in 2019. Zero in 2020 and it looks good this year. I also have Gems from Atkins nursery and Maddock nursery both in Fallbrook ca.

I'm in TX... I repotted mine and the leaves wilted... I'm thinking it was due to sun exposure... Currently I moved it to the shade... I ordered some whitewash hoping it will help... What do you think I should do?
@AE-tk9fp3 жыл бұрын
I’m in South Texas and grow about 12 + different varieties and multiples of some in ground.. I use Surround wp clay spray as a whitewash for leaves and trunk. It works well to help keep the plants cool and blocks a good amount of heat. Hope this helps.

If you have intense sunlight I would ease them back into sunlight if you spread out the roots in a new container. Correct soil is the key and water.

Keep it fertilized and try Alaska Fish fertilizer Bloom in early spring . It will help keep the flowering going. It will eventually set fruit. Sounds like you’re on the right track.
