This is not Traffic, this is Jim's band in 1976.

Jim should have come out from behind the drums more!
@soulhealer20 Жыл бұрын
he did for several years when the iconic Jim Gordon took over the drumming position.

How come I’ve never heard of this man? He’s very talented. Did he have a very short career? Thanks for posting and turning me on to some new music.

You're very welcome! He was a member of Traffic. He had an ambitious solo career, but never garnished much success or attention.

"He was a member of Traffic." Exactly. For many years. Unfortunately, he had two strikes against him in terms of building a solo career: 1. He was Traffic's drummer. He was a good drummer, and he also wrote quite a few of their lyrics. But it's hard to front a band when you're the drummer. 2. He was overshadowed, in Traffic, by an even more talented man - Steve Winwood, who was their songwriter, vocalist, keyboardist, and guitarist, and superb at all of those.

Here's Traffic live with Jim Capaldi singing, one of the few songs of theirs with him as vocalist. Traffic had two other great vocalists, Steve Winwood and Dave Mason. I did see Traffic do this song in 74 or 75, great show. Light Up Or Leave Me Alone kzbin.info/www/bejne/rKGpeqqVeNOai6c

You should look into Jim's music more. He had some excellent albums...not your pop shit.... and great success with Traffic. The Last Great Traffic Jam was an amazing tour.

Jim Capaldi wrote some fine songs. My favourites being 'You've Taken Hold of Me' and 'You and Me', both featuring hauntingly beautiful guitar solos by Paul Kossoff (former Free guitarist).

He was the lyric writer with Traffic for shits sake

Definitely a key member. Mr Fantasy will always be one of the best albums of all time.

Didn't Jim Capaldi work with Paul Kossoff on Backstreet Crawler? Wonder when this TOGWT aired, Kossoff died in March of '76.
@misterE-19893 ай бұрын
This aired in 1976. I'm not sure if Capaldi worked with Kossoff on that album (which is a great album) but I know they were friends. Capaldi's Boy With A Problem is about Kossoff.

Jim Capaldi’s voice and songwriting is unreal! Him and Dave Mason edge out Steve Winwood imo, especially in regards to solo careers
@misterE-19898 ай бұрын
I personally think Jim's solo career was the best, albeit the least recognized.

@@misterE-1989 I think Dave Mason’s was the best (subjective of course), but Jim’s was definitely the least recognized
