Nothing to laugh about... Avabeth. My son took a puck to the area just above the knee where the pad and his hockey pants didn't cover. Luck of the draw...limped off the ice...and put some on the bruise, went back out the second period and scored. It didn't hurt him, it just pissed him off. What we worry about with hockey pucks is contact to the head or to the neck area which is the least protected area in hockey. A hit to that area can kill. That's why we duck. Yay...Canada. Yay hockey.

@CityStarrzz3 жыл бұрын
One, because subjectivity is important. Two, because his style and sense of timing and observations resonate with you. He’s not unfunny, clearly, he’s made millions being funny. But his biggest talent isn’t standup. It’s watching him inhabit a role of someone who exists in the real world, in an odd situation. That’s where he gets to take the mundane, and basically do what animators do, and accentuate the nuances of behaviour to the point that we then notice those small idiosyncratic behaviours people would do themselves. That’s where he shines.

I’m Australian and have lived and travelled all over the world. Whether it’s North America, Asia, Europe or the Middle East, all reactions and tired tropes are the same, I just have to take a breath and wait once people ask “AUSTRALIA?!” I know exactly what is coming 🤣

American humor about Canadá is very curious. I remember that as a foreigner i did not understand it, because canadians are very friendly and calm people. Now that i understand it, it is extremely fun haha even to apply it to people who are not canadian or american.

I have lived for nearly a year in Canada, and there are so many ignorant prejudice people toward Americans in general beyond belief, and rational thinking.

This is an example for ethnocentrism because of the stereotypes of Canadian people. Jim Carrey is explaining how he is from Canada and everyone around always asks him about the cold and other stereotypes (the hockey, and igloos). This is a perfect example of the 'othering' type of ethnocentrism. It is a view of a culture that someone else sees as different from ones own. As Americans, we have our ideas on the Canadian culture that we label. If we could learn to see past the differences in the Canadian people, and American people, we would learn that the two cultures are alike more than people believe. We learn more in this video about what Americans see, rather than what Canadians actually are like. The fact that Jim Carrey uses this as a comedy routine, proves that this is not an actuate description of Canadian life.
