Yes, WRTV is Channel 6 here in Indianapolis. The other station he mentioned still exist as well, WISH TV Channel 8 and WTTV Channel 4

Kabooki was either Filipino wrestler Ray Urbano or The Great Kabuki (who did wrestle early in his US run as "Kabooki").

tmage23 There's plenty of All Japan footage out there from the 1975-1977 timeframe which shows that Great Kabuki was still Young Boy Takachiho attending main events at ringside, so that's not likely.

Shiek also had Lord Zoltan/Ken Jugan wrestling as "King Kabooki" early in his career. His first known match was in 1975, and this issue was from March 1974 so it would've been about a year earlier than his first recognized match in Clarksburg, WV.

Regarding the St. Louis listing, KDNL channel 30 was an independent station, and would eventually air Larry Matysik's "outlaw" promotion years later after he left the NWA promotion. The 5-6 timeslot that is mentioned here wouldn't have conflicted with Wrestling At The Chase, as I believe that was on KPLR channel 11 at 11:00 on Sundays, and sometime like midnight on Saturdays.

I left a fairly lengthy reply and it disappeared within a matter of minutes. I guess I'm supposed to be like Gebo Ganes the Gayboy Gamer, the fake Charlotte Flair and the fake Sasha Banks, saying nothing of substance over and over and over again. Anyway, the short version that's relevant to your comment concerns KDNL. The ongoing strife and eventual unrepairable rift between Geigel and Matysik opened Vinnie Mac's eyes to the fact that St. Louis was a vulnerable market. When KPLR booted Geigel's version of Wrestling at the Chase in favor of the WWF, ironically, he wound up promoting St. Louis house shows through airings of Kansas City's All Star Wrestling on KDNL. Well, wouldn't you know? Not long after I left this comment, the other comment magically reappears. The way the 'net has gone these days, it probably "required moderation" because it was something other than empty, substance-free content.

Also, the picture quality for 30 was horrible even if you lived in the surrounding area unless you had some crazy antenna. Even if it had conflicted it probably wasn't a frequently watched because you had to live in a very specific area to get it clearly.

@@MisterBeauJanGels More likely the comment appeared when you left a new comment because it refreshed it. If KZbin comments had moderators you think the comments sections would look like they do? Lose the tinfoil hat mate.

@@Ceaseless_Watcher Got it, thanks. Some followup about Alaska, now that the Anchorage Times is accessible from NewsBank via local library subscription. There was a live show booked by "World Wide Sports" (the corporate name of the Detroit promotion) in Anchorage in 1974, which drew 500 people. The card had only three matches. Earl Maynard vs. Pampero Firpo was the opener, Killer Tim Brooks was in the main event, and I've forgotten the other details already. The next live show in Anchorage wasn't until the AWA came in 1985. Tor Berg, who I understand Cornette had an association with, was the promoter. Some of his local partners may have been involved in the 1974 show, but that was unclear since the news stories only mentioned some mysterious company name as the local promotion. Berg's Alaska promotion was short-lived, less than six months. A news story about one of his last shows claimed there was a wrestling show in 1979, with no real details one can research.

The auto industry went downhill starting with the Oil Embargo, and really hit a low point in the late 70s. (Japanese cars had a much better fuel efficiency.) It started back in the early 80s, but still took a while.

Detroit proper. Meaning inside the actual city of Detroit is a fuckin GHOST TOWN. It's about 1/10 the population. Also Detroit never really recovered from the 67 riot. That was pretty much the end for it. As far as population though, I remembered a reporter a few years ago playing golf through the city just to show how fuckin empty it is. Even the people who live here live in the Suburbs. I grew up in Detroit. A little part called Britemoor and I'm happy to report I have been a happy citizen of Ann Arbor for years now

White Flight (as a reaction to the 67 Riots) sealed Detroit's fate. Same thing that's happening to San Francisco and Seattle. The rich white liberals that push for "diversity" and stoke the flames of racial tension are always the first to move out, leaving the poor people to die in the leftwing dystopia they created. Companies that were headquartered in Seattle are now in Bellevue, and companies that were headquartered in San Francisco are now in Palo Alto and Walnut Creek, because they don't want their kids going to school in the hellholes they built.

Wait a minute...how come the US and World Tag champions are different in Detroit than the ones in San Francisco? Don't tell me they had multiple versions of each title - I'm not listening...(fingers in ears) LaLaLaLaLaLaLaLa (actually, there were, what, SEVEN different versions of these titles, before they were "unified" by Crockett?) And did you know Taylor went through the 1972 Olympic wrestling tournament undefeated, but only got a bronze because of the strange tournament system (you got anywhere from 0 to 4 "elimination points" per match, and were eliminated once you got 6 points)?

Don Del Grande Wait what? That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Why would they ever do something that complicated and frankly dumb when a single or double elimination tournament works just fine? I'll have to read more about this.

DDG: The San Francisco and original version of The United States Championship contested by archrivals Dusty Rhodes and Ole Anderson in 1981 at Frisco's Cow Palace was the very same first showcased in 1957 by Verne Gagne at Chicago's Marigold Arena TV Tapings. As to 1972 in Munich, there was the bizarre ending to US vs. USSR Men's Basketball.😡🏀 And of course the horrific attack on eight Israeli athletes in the Olympic Village. Summer 1972 Munich might've been the most tragically controversial Sports Event ever.😔 On the bright side though there was Dave Wottle, Mark Spitz, Teofilo Stevenson, and Olga Korbut among others.🤔B.W.

@@madbrowniac7871 ...among those "others" were Vasily Alekseyev, Frank Shorter (and the impostor who ran onto the track in front of him, resulting in a rare Jim McKay loss of composure), and Dan Gable (who, apparently, is NOT Chad's father; Gable isn't really Chad's last name)
