Bret certainly wasn't the best talker in the business, but he did improve somewhat during his heel run with the whole Canada vs. USA conflict. He's also often been criticized for taking himself too seriously and being his own biggest fan, which is pretty true if you watch some of his interviews. Regardless, he always did have great body language in the ring, whether it was to convey his emotions (anger, fatigue, frustration, etc.), or it was selling. His match with Austin at Wrestlemania 13 was a fucking classic and I think is one of the greatest Wrestlemania matches of all time. After Austin had passed out from the sharpshooter, you see Bret with his hands on his hips standing defiant and triumphant over his opponent, the volatile, confrontational bastard that had been verbally and physically attacking him for some time after his return to the WWF. This is the guy the people had been cheering. The American people condoned this kind of behavior when Bret saw himself as a hero and role model only to be stabbed in the back. Now it was time for Bret to let out some more pent up frustration by kicking him when he's down. Then his great heel refusal to challenge an intervening Shamrock was pretty sweet. In the end Bret further legitimized himself as one of the best in the business after his long hiatus by winning the match, yet Austin never actually tapped out. They both got over as a heel and face... though depending on where each event was held.

We have heard other podcasts with Jim Cornette where he has discussed the Screwjob, and he has never taken responsibility for the Screwjob. He has always stated that Vince should screw Bret for the belt, but not how to do it, other than not doing the small package. This is the first time I've heard Jim say "it was my spot". I believe him 100% because other than Bruce Pritchard, Patterson, and Briscoe, no one else had the wrestling acumen to come up with that spot. I know for damn sure, it wasn't Russo.

There is a tale to be told just in the fact that a Southern guy booked a finish for the 2nd generation Northern guy to beat the 2nd generation Canadian guy.... To play devil's advocate, one of the good things to come out of the demise of kayfabe was the opening up of a whole new avenue for retired wrestlers. People love to hear the old stories and now that the vets were no longer constrained by the pro wrestling version of omerta, they were able to write books, start podcasts and score lucrative speaking engagements by shooting rather than regurgitating the same old storylines and answering the same lame "is wrestling fake?" queries. Would Corny's podcasts and appearances be as lucrative if he had to stick to kayfabe? As for the effects on modern-day wrestling, well, it's a case of adapt or perish just like any other form of entertainment. Be it vaudeville, burlesque, circuses, big-band music, roller derby, Frankie and Annette, whatever, they all had their day and now they are for the most part gone other than a few scattered nostalgia acts. It would be nice to go back to the days of territories and kayfabe, but there is no unringing that bell. It's not going to happen, best to move on.

Triple H has historically taken credit for saying “F*ck him if he won’t do business then you do business for him” about Brett and this situation. At the time no one wanted credit for it.

Adam- The Sports Guy According to Prichard, everyone had the idea to screw Bret, but Cornette was the probably the one who came up with the finish.

Triple H just wants to be known for any big thing in wrestling. He was never mentioned in being involved in it til years later. He's just try to write himself into history. He'd take credit for Hulkamania, Austin 3:16 and the nWo if he could.

When Bret came back in 97 him and shawn was supposed to have the rematch and Bret was supposed to win then shawn lost his smile he refused to loose to Bret and when they finally had the match Bret was supposed to loose by dq it was on wrestling with shadows he recorded the conversation with Vince either way they screwed my favorite wrestler

Melanie L nope, he had it in his contract and he was willing to lose to anyone else even the Brooklyn brawler, it’s just bs and no one can defend Shawn that’s why everyone calls him and HHH little pussies. Because they are
@jamaaldavis32225 жыл бұрын
@Melanie L you can say he screwed himself because he was loyal to the company and probably should have never had the match he had a feeling that he was going to be screwed bottom line it's fucked up the way they played him on tv when he stayed dedicated and could have went to wcw a year before Bret deserved better Bret carried that company and he built the Austin era he probably would have gave Austin or undertaker the belt

The whole Montreal Screwjob was a terrible situation. I can see Bret’s stance on not dropping the title in Canada. Here in Canada we love Bret Hart more than Tim Horton’s and free health care. I named my first born son after him. Having him leave and not taking the title off him in advance was a huge mistake though.

But the years later up until now watching this video and finding out the real actual truth behind the Montreal Double-Cross from Jim Cornette's own words about what really went down involving Bret Hart. This is a really surprisingly unexpected shocker to me for real. And to also find out that Jim is really close friends with Bret "The Hitman" Hart and the Hart Family and that he didn't really want to have anything to do with the double cross finish, but he didn't really have any other choice at all by having to be pressured and backed into a corner by Vince McMahon. And being forced to come up with the idea of screw job finish. OMG Wow I had no idea that he was responsible for the idea and end result. But at the same time I really feel for him and gained more and a new found respect for Jim Cornette that he was man enough to admit that he fucked up and didn't really wanna go along with the idea though. And what we have in common is we hate Vince Russo's guts and the things that he said about him was hella 🔥 hilarious 😆.

You know what I don't understand, why didn't McMahon solve the problem of Bret not wanting to drop the title to Shawn Michaels, by having Bret drop the title to somebody else. And then that guy drops it to Shawn. Just like the Bob Backlund-Hogan situation. Same thing Backlund didn't want to drop to Hogan. Instead he dropped to The Iron Sheik who drops it to Hogan. At the beginning of the match Vince sends out Sgt. Slaughter the onscreen commissioner at the time (I think). He blah blah blah and either makes it a triple threat with another higher up guy and he wins. Or strips Shawn of the number one contendership and brings out another dude. I dunno it would have been a lot easier.

And one more thing that I really needs to add regarding the whole scenario about the infamous Montreal "Double-Cross" situation. Despite still being in a state of shock about the fact of finish being Jim Cornette's own suggested idea, Was an absolute genius and on top of that really changed the whole entire wrestling game and the course of wrestling history forever. And which also recreated, rewritten and reshaped wrestling and how things are done now, involving finishes especially controversial ones. But nonetheless even though Jimbo suggested different and more simple less complicated controversial finishes to Vince McMahon, But Vince wouldn't even take those advice and suggestions and other alternatives, which really was fucked up. Knowing things could've and should've gone differently for real.

Susan St. James appearing at WMII was probably due to her starring on the CBS sitcom Kate and Alley at the time not who she was married to although that doesn't hurt, lol. Also, the internet actually was a thing at the time as far as the IWC goes (starting around 1996). I read about the Montreal Screwjob on the internet when it first happened.

@John O My former boss (r.i.p.) mentioned how she was first exposed to it in 1989 during her last few years of college. I guess my middle school computer teacher (Mrs. Durham) kept it from us during the late 80's probably due to those limitations. We were stuck with Bank Street Writer and the assorted software for use with the Commodore 64, lol. I think she made the right choice but definitely appreciated the evolution that it went through over the course of the following decade.

14:20 European settlers also devasted the longleaf pine savannas that were once a very important ecological feature in the southeast. Today, only about 5 percent of the original amount of forest remains. I don't agree with Jim Cornette on a lot of political issues, but I'm with him on this all the way.
