It may be silly but I always enjoyed how Bret physically held the actual title. He didn't just toss it around like Hogan. He always had it around his waist or over his shoulder and he handed it to the referee. Those simple actions made the title more important.

I still feel that unless you physically cannot fit the title around your waist then you should always wear it around your waist. I hate the guys you see walking down to the ring with it over their shoulder or just carrying it in one hand etc. Only time the belt should ever be over your shoulder is during an interview or promo, because you have it in your shoulder so the title is kept on camera.

Bret's execution of offensive grappling moves was far superior. Shawn could take bumps beautifully and there was a grace to his movement that's unmatched to this day. His high flying also looked awesome without the excess of today's gymnasts.

@Kwame brown and Jim cornette burner account I started wrestlinling in the mid 60s with Fritz Von Erich vs. Johnny Valentine in fort Worth. Got away from it during high school and college and got back into it when living in Daytona 1980-1981 with Georgia Championship Wrestling on TBS. And then back in Texas with the Von Erich boys 1980-1985 until they pretty much all DIED. Two best wrestlers ever as far as talent, work and promos BY FAR were Flair and Piper.

I honestly like the Bret Hart wrestler I guess we can call it his in-ring person. It isn't trying to be something else, it just feels like it's him being a wrestler and a tough guy. It isn't over the top and it isn't in your face like Ultimate Warrior. Those guys outside of the fanbase (maybe in but these are just from observing people who aren't into wrestling like we all are) either get made fun of or just questioned because seriously, seeing Ultimate Warrior run out the ring like that and shake the ring then talk just made you wonder about that guy and take him less seriously. Bret was just that calm and collective guy who I felt showed and never told. So when you see the whole "best there is, best there was, and the best there ever will be" line, you believe it. Plus he had a badass theme song. I remember watching wrestling for the first time and seeing Bret do this one back breaker (think it is in his titration video in his return in 2010) just looked super deadly. I also love his submission finisher and the name sharpshooter... Not sure if he made that name up or not but it also does kind of fit with his Hitman nickname.

Growing up I remember that line and always thought Bret seemed silly saying it. Then I believe it was with Shawn, he cut a promo with actual emotion and used that line towards then end, and I was taken back. It was the first time I ever thought “oh, he actually believes that shit.” It’s a little sad he was starting to be at his best promo wise when he left.

This documentary just reinforces the fact that Bret's always been a guy you could respect and admire, after watching the previous documentaries as well. As a wrestler and as a person, he's one of a kind. He's always had the same stories told the same way, he's never "changed" them to suit a narrative. He always accepted he was at fault when he was indeed at fault. I've always been a fan of him from when I was a kid, and even up to this day, I can watch any of his matches and enjoy them. Myself as a kid thought he was the best in the world. Myself as an adult thinks he was the best the wrestling business will ever see.

I just cannot comprehend how he has no contact with his brother’s widow and his niece and nephew. Obviously, I cannot know the intricacies of what’s gone on within that large, relatively private family, but I do feel strongly that Bret is wrong for not speaking to, and in fact, treating coldly Owen’s widow, his son, and his daughter. That speaks to his character and it’s not becoming. Yes, he’s a great wrestler, and I admire his talent, his hard work, and how seriously he took the business and the craft he loves so much. Still, personally, he comes off like a cold prick.

@@iamcasihart Bret keeps trying to stay in touch with his nephew and niece, he just doesn't talk to Martha. And that's not on him, that's on her: she stated in several interviews that they stopped talking because of issues related to him not having his and Owen's footage from WWE, despite the fact that, at the time, Bret was already in talks with WWE personnel to get free access to footage of himself - which then ended up with them relinquishing Bret's footage. All of this was unrelated to the case, and the more she kept insisting on it, once Bret caught wind of what she was *actually* trying to accomplish (preventing WWE from mentioning or even using Owen's name for their product), that's when they fell out. She's made up a lot of facts over the years - and the fact she very subtly changed her story on occasion doesn't really help her case. And this is not even mentioning the fact she categorically refused to allow the Hart Family to accept Owen's induction to the WWE Hall of Fame as a part of the Hart Foundation, which by itself is a bitchy move. I mean, you can say all you want about WWE and their Hall of Fame - I do agree that it is a bullshit Hall of Fame and meaningless for the most part - but she shouldn't have any say on what goes and what "goesn't", especially seeing how she affected the legacy of the Hart family by refusing Owen's induction with his family. What she is doing is essentially erasing her husband from Wrestling History and she is salty that Bret and his Family don't agree with her position, as what she wants to accomplish is pretty much an "anti-fans" move: she doesn't want to allow wrestling fans to Celebrate what Owen's done for the business. She's already created the Owen Hart Foundation, she's rich because of it and all the media press she still gets. Her kids are doing fantastic and none of them wants anything to do with Wrestling because of her. She is getting what she asked for. WWF would not have become what it is today without its Canadian connection from back then. All this to say that it's really hard to consider Bret Hart a "foreigner" when Canada was such a huge part of Wrestling back then.

Hitman Hart: Wrestling With Shadows is still the best Bret Hart biography, but A&E's take added some important history and gave us an epilogue where Bret finally seems at peace, which was nice.

Seriousness is seriously lacking these days. Especially the way, on WWE tv these days, they insist on making sure we all know it’s a work. They always talk about “their character” this and “their character” that. I think Cornette has talked about that before. Plus even the work of these “stars” has been so sloppy. They don’t even try that much. When a guy like Bad Bunny has the most realistic spot in ages that says a lot about the product IMO.

Bret was the first wrestler in my era (1980's - Present) that I remember won all three of WWF's titles. Tag-Team Champion, Intercontinental Champion, and WWF World Champion. He was the man! Sgt Salughter said it to Bret he saved wrestling. The business was on its knees in late 92 from the steroid scandal and the ring boys molestation scandals. Bret in those 5 years re-built the business based on believable feuds and great wrestling and international fan growth into new markets it is a real shame he never got to reap the rewards in 98-99 of the business he helped rebuild with matches with Hogan or continuing his feud with Austin had he been able to stay in WWE.

Bret is the G.O.A.T. You can say Shawn Michaels, Ric Flair, Stone Cold, Kurt Angle, Buddy Rogers, Bruno Sammartino, the Rock, but Bret Hart was incredible. He had the cool look, the technical ability, he was an athlete, he was amazing at in ring psychology and has had many classic matches. My all time favourite and hero growing up. He made everything look real and accomplished everything. Bret was also innovative, taking the first bump through a table on WWE PPV against Diesel. He brought the ladder match concept to the WWE, he invented the figure four around the ring post, he carried Davey Boy Smith to a five star match at summeslam 1992, he elevated Austin to the top, he took part in the best match in WM history against Austin at WM13, he has the best opening match in WM history at WM10 against his brother Owen Hart, he was in the first WWE iron man match on PPV held at WM12. Bret could make any wrestler look better while winning or losing. Bret never injured anyone in his entire career, which is incredible because he adopted the hard hitting Calgary style which can be snug. I can’t say enough good things about Bret and how much he gave to wrestling. The best thing is that he didn’t even need a gimmick! Bret Hart was Bret Hart. The best ever to Grace the squared circle. Bret Hart is an artist and the ring his canvas. the excellence of execution is the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will be.

Yes, his singles career was what elevated him to the very top of the WWF, I think that his tag team stuff with Neidhart, as the Hart Foundation, is great. Some of the best tag team wrestling you will ever see. I loved the stuff they did as a heel team with Jimmy Hart as their manager.

Bottom line, Bret was THE most "believable" wrestler I have ever seen. You can put a Bret match on for the most skeptical, smart ass pro wrestling critic, and even they will have to respect the match. I had an uncle who was the "wrestling is so phoney" guy, and it drove me nuts. One day I was watching wrestling and he sat down and started in on me. He laughed that I was watching. I put the Bret vs. Mr Perfect "King Of The Ring" match on and he actually popped. He asked "do you have any other matches of this Bret Hart guy"? I was beaming with shock and pride. So I played Bulldog (Summerslam 92) and Owen (WM10) where he lost both, and he was loving it. That's when you KNOW a guy is captivating.

Bret Hart is the best wrestler I've ever seen. I consider Kurt Angle to be the best overall performer I've ever laid eyes on, but in terms of making a match look believable, look real, selling the impact of a move done against him and making his opponent look good, he's the GOAT. One of the funnier compliments I've read about him years ago was that he convinced WCW that Kevin Nash could work. And while I think that's a tad harsh to Big Kev, you'd have a hard time naming a great match he was in that didn't involve either Bret or Shawn...that's how good they both were. I just prefer Bret's more believe style.

Bret Harts ex wife Julie was from my province and was an old friend of my moms. Everytime the WWF came to our province we would always get to meet him. My uncle also owned the local hockey team that played in the arena where the WWF shows would take place so we always got to meet some of the guys after the shows. I will never forget Hulk Hogan vs Savage, and years later seeing Bret win the belt from Flair at a superstars house show in Saskatoon. My mom probably has the picture of me with his glasses and the belt over my shoulder. Flair never left character when we met him either. I swear my mom was going to leave with him and my dad would have probably been proud of it lol

Bret Hart had the unique ability of making all of his moves look like they hurt, without actually hurting anyone. He didn't call himself "The Excellence of Execution" for nothing. To my knowledge Bret Hart never injured anyone in the ring and all of his stuff was crisp and clean. Did he have an Ego? Yeah, but not any bigger than any other Main Eventer at the time. Bret also had great pride in his work. Modern day wrestlers seem to only care about doing moves to pop the crowd without worrying about the danger or the execution of a particular move, which in turn makes their stuff seem either sloppy or way too choreographed. And when everyone is wrestling at similar paces, doing the exact same moves, repeating the same spots over and over again, well, everything just seems to blend together and lack variety. Whilst you can watch a Bret Hart match and appreciate all the little details. Especially when facing other greats like Mr. Perfect, Davey Boy Smith, Owen Hart, Jinsei Shinzaki "Hakushi" or Steve Austin.

Bret Hart is still massive here in the UK. Growing up in the early-90s Bret was *THE GUY* everyone loved. Biggest loss to wrestling was WCW's bungling of this legitimate wrestling GOAT, what a shitshow that was. Ending was very sweet though, didn't have Bret down for a lover of brown sugar.

Bret Hart matches were the closest thing to Picasso paintings. They were logical, they had a sense of realism to them. Bret portrayed himself as a true world champion because he believed and made you believe. No secret that the business drew better when people believed versus the high schoolers drawing average ratings on Wednesday nights. Everyone from kids to grandmas loved Bret and his matches because he loved his fans. He never felt fake but like a guy grateful for his success. People can call him bitter all they want but if you lost your career despite being loyal to to the company you worked for, your parents, two brothers, countless friends, suffered a debilitating stroke and cancer within a 20 year period, you would be mad at the world too. The only people who say he was bitter are fat slobs living in their parents basement and post on Reddit. Seeing the last few minutes of the doc with Bret with his family was euphoric. To see your childhood hero get a happy ending in a industry where his peers dropped dead before they could collect social security is a beautiful thing.

I must have seen the spots he did with Tiger Mask recreated a million times by now, and it always looks phony and cooperative with sloppy indy guys whipping their arms around, not even getting a grasp on their opponents, and the opponent rolling with them as if they had. But with Tiger Mask and Tommy, it really looked like two guys fighting for control and countering each other at break neck speed, I've honestly never seen anyone make that exchange look good before and now have a better understanding of why so many people do it.

The early to mid 90s WWF gets a bad rap but I have many great memories of the "New Generation". Even if it wasn't mature enough for some people, it still had great wrestlers telling stories that made sense. One of the earliest Raws featured Heenan trying to sneak into the Manhattan Center and that one theme carried throughout the entire episode. It made things interesting. Before there was Raw I used to love watching Prime Time. I looked forward to syndicated shows like Challenge and Superstars. I had a nostalgia moment but you get the point.

As a huge fan of HBK, I must say that my respect for Bret was remembered and magnified. The issue I had with Bret was his bitterness, non-forgiveness , and his ability to make it seem as though he was always right, and other people were wrong. Now, I feel as though his seriousness and love for the profession is what set him apart. I still prefer HBK in the ring, but Bret was a better champion and leader, and now that he has forgiven and admitted he wasn’t the perfect man he presented himself to be, I want to go back and watch Bret Hart stuff.
