If you watch Bret Hart at his peak, 92 to 97, his matches built. They might not of all started out at zero, but they built to a point and then you got the sling shot cross body on the floor, you got some brawling around the ring, and then things settled back down in the ring and the matches built back up to the finish. When you start 100 MpH where do you go? Where do you go from a corkscrew moonsault in the first minute and a half?

Surely saying "It's a Bret Hart masturbatory tribute match" is already throwing the idea it's a work to the viewer before you even start talking about the turnbuckle spot. The business is so exposed now... I don't know how anyone can even watch it anymore. Yes their fans are mostly consisted of hardcore fans who know about way more than the casuals do, but what people apparently can't understand (probably because most casual fans don't seem to really watch their shows since otherwise they'd know this) is that their fanbase appreciates many different styles of wrestling, case in point when Punk is able to get a pop out of that same audience from a simple bodyslam, they don't just blindly eat up all the spotfests like everyone thinks they do. If they don't like something they're seeing because it's noticeably bad, they're either basically dead silent or very vocal about it (think when the Dark Order debuted for the former and Satnam Singh's debut in the latter case), so they aren't just sheep for everything that's put in front of them on a weekly basis. The line about Punk's matches being masturbatory Bret Hart tributes was meant to send a message that it's not gonna be a wrestling masterclass (even if it will still be one given the talent involved), but rather a fight because he's not gonna allow Punk to just have another tribute match and beat him, he doesn't appreciate (in kayfabe) how he approaches the business, so I thought that line was fantastic. Everyone should honestly just watch as fans at this point and don't worry about how good or bad the booker is anymore because you'll like some things they do and you won't like other things, it happens with literally every TV show, there's usually both good and bad aspects in it, but you don't see people shitting all over the ones behind those shows because one thing they did looked bad and they didn't like it, any logical person knows they can't possibly enjoy *everything*

The JR Brett Hart criticism is absurd. If "Quarterback BOB" famously misses a throw in a really specific, embarrassing way, and then decades later another quarterback, "Quarterback JIM," embarrassingly misses a throw in the same way, and the commentator says "wow, shades of Quarterback BOB" do you really think the implication is that the NFL is all a work, and he must have purposely missed the throw? No, of course not, nothing is being implied except that it is reminiscent of something in history.
@standardofexcellence2 жыл бұрын
Well actually football is as fake as wrestling for storylines, house money, and narratives they just never break kayfabe and succumb to evil so like a commentator in the nfl would do is tease something that he knows is in the script to happen then does it would.

@Voysh2Voysh692 жыл бұрын
Pro wrestling, by nature, is in-ring co-operation. Literally anything you do in wrestling is co-operation. If you threw a working punch at me, and I didn’t cooperate with you, then I’d no sell the move & your punch would look like trash. The main point about the gymnastics routine is that it’s so painfully obvious when guys hold each other up on the top rope or run & do cartwheels while the opponent stands still for 10 seconds while the cartwheel & rope bouncing routine is being performed across the ring.

i don't get why Jim keeps saying that the Bucks told Page to say that, everybody says shit like that. Cena said Aquaman is tryna be him but can't. Orton said the Club is tryna be the nWo. i didn't view it as anything besides pointing out a guy who not only has SAID he is inspired by Bret, but that the quality of his work is similar to Bret's quality, and that Page is within his anxious character, fearful. because the audience is super behind Punk, and not so much behind Page, so Page is like "stop tryna be Bret" and Punk as another babyface can always go "why are you so scared of me" which is what i'm expecting from this dynamite since Long Island was Bizarro World

WT......? Page cut a promo. He was coming from the perspective of the younger wrestler, an AEW original who hasn't had to address CM Punk until Punk wanted a shot at the title. Now any resentment he may have had from Punk coming in and "taking a spot" in AEW starts to percolate and these feelings come out. Bret Hart being mentioned? AEW scored a big strike against the WWE by putting on the Owen Hart tournament, that was a move that should have been seen as more controversial than it has been. Bret is Owen's brother and was there to present the AEW Championship belt when it debuted. Maybe Bret is coming in to work a small program with Punk as a manager /advisor, or making appearances in AEW in general and all of this is setting the stage for that. I really liked Punk extending his hand to Page last Wednesday. Page stuck his finger in Punk's face and said "Fuck Off! Fuck You!!" Simple, reactionary and perfect. Punk could only smile. Page has the attitude of "Everyone thinks your a great guy but I know better" in regards to Punk and doesn't like Punk calling his shot. I doubt Punk wins the title -- he doesn't need it and the rub for Page is more important.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to think that Young Bucks could come up with something as acerbic as the Bret Hart comment. I thought it was Great. Page knows that he's nowhere near as over Punk is, and that if he doesn't strike first with a verbal jab, that Punk will eat him alive on the mic. But Punk is smart, so he won't bury Page, unless it's to make a point. Having said that, I am completely over the Bret Hart tribute Wrestlers. Nostalgia is the past time of the morose and depressed.
