That last line is the biggest thing that separates Cornette's stuff. Most shoots are just opinions or reviews but Corney can lay out a much more complete picture because he kept records. (Still gives opinions of course but how many wrestlers couldn't tell you the town/show/date on their stuff as opposed to what we get here).

If I remember, it was $11,700 after taxes. Why he and Tully left, They wrestled a hell of a match against the Midnights in Houston. The very next match, Arn was instructed to lose in 4 minutes to Dr. Death. After the match, he asked Jim Crockett why he wanted him to lose like that after the midnight express match. He told him I'm just doing what Dusty said he wanted to do. That was it for him and told Tully he wanted to hand his notice in the next night, Tully was all too happy to oblige, lol.

The reason they left was when TBS was buying the company they interviewed all the top talent to see how they could compete with The WWF. Tully said in an interview that we need new blood on top. Word got back to Dusty & Crockett and they took him off the plane that the main event talent flew on. Tully asked JJ what was up & he said it was just an oversight. Tully replied “I’m 35 years old, I don’t need to be spanked.” “You want the belts tonight in Houston or tomorrow in Philadelphia?” JJ said tomorrow was fine. Tully was leaving but he never thought Arn was coming. I was at the Philadelphia show and still remember after the title switch Tully & Arn holding up four fingers and circling the ring. It’s like they were saying goodbye

I think this is referring to Arn for Starrcade 87 when he said Crockett told him he wanted to pay them 25k for that Starrcade(87) but when Vince sabotaged it, the PPV buy rate ended up being much lower than expected so he was given 11700 Arn has said on his own podcast with Conrad.

A 12,500 payoff during the 1980s would be like making close to 30,000 today. Not bad for one wrestling event. Though I don't blame Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard for going to the WWF.

Fortunately for Crockett, Nailz wasn’t part of his roster. If Crockett promised Nailz $25,000, he better receive $25,000.

@John Volken I think so. Nailz would receive his money after all when WCW signed him, put him in only 1 or 2 matches, and kept paying him for a few years.

Wrestling 🤼‍♀️ is so dead. Back in 85 we watched our favorite heros and villains on Saturday morning then went outside with the other kids and rode bikes or played sports in the neighborhood. In 2020 smart fans are discussing what the wrestlers got paid when I was 14 years old 🙄

When he discusses the payoff it was for either Starrcade 87 or Bunkhouse 88. He said that Crockett came to him and Tully and told them that he appreciated how hard they’d worked for him and being workhorses like they had been to that point and said in gratitude for their loyalty and sticking with him they’d be paid $25,000 for that show. We all know that those shows got sabotaged by the WWF and didn’t do well in PPV sales like Crockett hoped and/or thought they were going to do. When the money had all come through months later and guys got paid for the show Arn got around half the amount he was promised and took issue since he’d been promised $25,000. And he explains how the amount he received was well above anything he’d have ever expected to receive anyways but that he took issue in being promised one thing and receiving another. He explains further that it ruffled him that Crockett never spoke to them ahead of time to explain what had happened business wise to the show and the damage that was done by the WWF and why he couldn’t afford to honor what he’d said instead paying them what he did without explanation until they went to him to ask why it wasn’t what they were told or was going to be. It boiled down more to feeling a lack of respect than the actual dollar amount for him. But even that didn’t directly lead to leaving but the events of kicking Tully off the plane and the squash match against Dr D. But that the payoff not being what was promised contributed to him losing respect and trust in Crockett for not holding to his word. In the end it was a horrible choice to have ever promised something before the revenues were there by Crockett because if he’d never said something and just chosen to pay them $7,500 let’s say to show appreciation on their payoff they’d have been thrilled with it but because he set an expectation the payoff was a disappointment even when it was the largest he ever received for his career. So much in business stems from what expectations get set.

Starrcade 86 was Ole and Arn in a steel cage against RnR in one of the best tag match in Starrcade (that also might be the 1st time he did the spinebuster). AA one of the best ever to never win the main title, such a beast in the Mic and psychology wise, a true Pro Wrestler.
