Again, it simply comes down to Corny's idea of wrestling is two guys that hate each other trying to beat the shit out of each other. The key is realism, pure and simple. That, no matter how much you agreed that wrestling was fake when you were away from it, when you were watching, you thought "damn, these motherfuckers really don't like each other and really want to kill each other." The stuff Corny has a problem with is the stuff that does what he calls "exposing the business." Anything that pulls back the curtain on that realism. Stuff like moves where it's obvious the guy on the receiving end is helping the other wrestler. Someone flipping someone else with their dick isn't very realistic.

Back in the 90s gaming was viewed as more of a nerd pastime, gamers were viewed as not very sociable people (outcasts). Now its so mainstream and the gaming industry is HUGE. This generation especially have taken gaming to a whole new level. You can make good money just being a full time gamer ( e.g. NINJA) It is way more appreciated than before, just look at E-sports. Also many wrestlers are gamers too such as AJ Styles, Samoa Joe, Seth Rollins, the Rock etc. Kenny is a really good gamer and attends these events, he's putting more attention on NJPW and Pro wrestling while also showing his passion for video games.

It's good to see how well Cornie's comments here have aged. MLW featuring Jim Cornette has gone on to be a major national threat to the WWE. They even have a broadcast deal with KZbin. Meanwhile, AEW's events take place either in bingo halls or half-empty arenas. The last laugh goes to Cornie for anyone who thought he was just a delusional old mark stuck in the 70s with zero in-ring experience aside from the time he shattered his ankles after deciding landing feet first was the best way to break a 30-foot fall from a scaffold.
@jonathanjiles781
@jonathanjiles781 5 жыл бұрын
I think it's a bit preemptive to call AEW a "major national threat" to the WWE. Before you release your impulse "WwE FaNbOi HaHaHA!1!1" knee jerk reaction, I HOPE that AEW can be legitimate competition to WWE, because WWE definitely needs it. But the reality is, they're not. If they don't come up with far better storytelling and get rid of a lot of these indy types that are going to turn off channel flipping fans who aren't in that core group, they'll implode in a couple years.

But she was pure eyecandy, wasn't she!? I can't remember her wrestling any matches. And to book a vallet instead of a highly talented tag-team is pretty shitty imo. Especialy if your a compan which sells itself as "real wrestling, not sports entertainment".
@64UPAllGOD
@64UPAllGOD 6 жыл бұрын
A valet being a star, at least in an old school mindset, makes whoever they manage a similar star, lending them legitimacy. I wouldn't say that applies as much to modern wrestling, because people don't view managing as a "legitimate" role, but rather as an attempt by the booker to cover up a worker's weaknesses. That said, Bennett had the look and mannerisms to draw some money, but not in a company like ROH. Fundamentally, Jim still doesn't seem to get that was the problem with his time booking the company, he was trying to turn the product into something it really wasn't. The audience ROH had, and the only one it ever would and will, cares much more about an "exciting match" than drawing heat, or starpower. From Jim's perspective however, yes, Bennett was more useful to the style he was booking than The Young Bucks.
@scottsmartky

Again, this was before the YB were anything. Compare booking just another tag team or a guy with an ex-WWE uber-hottie. Now, if you're talking about the YB today, it would be different.

He doesn’t though. He’s a huge fan of FTR, has had them on his show and puts them over every chance he gets. He likes the Briscoes, Rest in Peace to Jay. So there is current stuff he likes, it’s just that there is so much trash in the business that there’s more to criticize than there is to compliment. Why do you think that even presenting an ostensibly “different” product it didn’t keep any of the lapsed fans it initially drew in? Because they’re doing exactly what alienated the core NWA audience when WCW bought Jim Crockett; trying to be WWF/E lite. Lapsed fans don’t really want more sports entertainment, they could get that from WWE if that’s what they wanted to see. As someone who actually watches a fair amount of AEW, they do a lot different from WWE in so many ways, but their presentation is not indicative of this, and most fans aren’t me who care far more about promo quality and ring psychology than they do overall presentation. Standing out MATTERS and AEW is making a mistake by not spinning off ROH to be it’s own thing as “the rasslin’ brand,” if they’re intent on keeping AEW as “sports entertainment.” Because there IS a pretty sizable market out there who want mat based, believable professional wrestling. Why do you think everyone who has even a passing interest in wrestling is so high on MJF? Because he can do it all and takes himself seriously. If a majority of performers presented themselves in a more serious manner (I do believe there is room in the business for guys like Orange Cassidy and ESPECIALLY Danhausen, but it can’t be more than 25% of your card) then more people would be willing to play along. Cody’s promo with Paul Heyman from a week or two ago basically proved that beyond a shadow of a doubt.

John O but he has proven to be a draw. That’s not an opinion. That’s just a fact. Why else would NJPW push him so hard? They put the top title in the company on him and it’s not common for NJPW to put the heavyweight title on a gaijin is a big deal. Kenny is clearly a big money draw and if you say otherwise, you’re just wrong because this isn’t opinion, it’s an actual fact. @Thor-Orion
@Thor-Orion Жыл бұрын
@@Gcool243 well, he definitely wasn’t their biggest draw when they put the belt on him. They had big plans to expand into the western market and thought Omega would be an excellent star to do it with, which I do agree with. Hence why when he left they pretty quickly put the title on Switchblade. AEW did kind of throw a bit of a monkey wrench into their expansion plans, because AEW targeted the exact niche that NJPW would have been aiming for with their western expansion. Since before AEW opened up there was a huge void in American wrestling for high quality in ring work with unscripted promos. Do I think AEW is booked pretty poorly and isn’t shaping up to be what it could have been? Yeah, sadly I do believe this to be the case, but NJPW had no way of knowing how AEW would pan out at the time, so they were very hesitant to push into a new market when there was suddenly a second big money competitor in the American market.

I mean Kenny has been put in the ring with people who take wrestling seriously and has had 5-star matches. And plenty of the best have been in goofy angles, and dumb matches. I mean Ric Flair is one of the Goats, and he had a lot of corny things about him, like elbow dropping his jacket. Wrestling can push boundaries and be awesome for that.His series with Okada is peak New Japan. I can get why people may not like a match or two in his resume, but to me, he's earned respect for being a world class wrestler that hasn't sold out to Vince and WWE, where inevitably he'd be watered down and ruin his indie cred.
