Eddie was very underrated in A lot of ways. His size sometimes made you go who the hell is this little dude, but Eddie was a great worker. He was also a great booker with a brilliant mind for the business. Were it not for his passing the business might look different today. RIP Eddie Gilbert you are sorely missed.

I was the biggest Eddie Gilbert fan. He was my first wrestling crush as a girl growing up. Continue to rest easy, Hot Stuff.😢

I remember Eddie Gilbert and Lawler making the rounds, working their HUGE angle. They came and packed our local fairgrounds. Brawled all over the place. I hate that he's so overlooked today.

In my opinion, Eddie Gilbert as the top heel, and Brad Armstrong as the top babyface in Smoky Mountain Wrestling would have been fantastic. Had Eddie Gilbert not died and worked full time for Smoky Mountain, and Cornette could have got Brad Armstrong to work in SMW full time, I think the two of them could have torn the houses down in that territory.
@mutedmutiny9542

I agree that would have been great. Jim has talked about this and he wanted Brad to be his top babyface but basically he knew Bischoff wouldn't let him go.

@@Dave-rf1zj oh I agree. I think Jim has said bob against him was the biggest house they ever did, so even though he wasn’t REALLY the top babyface, he was the top drawing babyface in SMW

My dad use to watch Eddie is the various promotions, Dad was stationed through out the SE states back in the 80's and early 90's. He said Eddie was a great wrestler, wasn't one of those steroid muscle apes like ex-lax Luger, it's sad how he died.

Eddie did so much in such a brief career. He wrestled in pre-Hulkamania WWF, NWA, Memphis, Mid- South/UWF, Continental, Japan, CWA Germany, Tri-State (the epic feud with Cactus Jack), ECW which he helped to innovate in its' early years, Puerto Rico where he died and probably tons of other places that weren't widely spoke of. He was a unique person in Pro Wrestling. Miss him.

I always thought Eddie Gilbert and Jim Cornette had so much in common--they were two of the funniest guys in the wrestling business! If Eddie was still alive, I would have loved to see him, Cornette, and Bruce Prichard on a comedy tour together. They would be more entertaining than a lot of what passes for comedy these days!

Eddie Gilbert, like his protege Shane Douglas, would be what the NFL, NHL, or NBA would call a "first round draft bust". Always touted like the "next big thing", but had this insane knack for blowing every money opportunity he ever got. Either by blowing spots left and right, or burning bridges he never needed to burn. Ended his career wrestling bears in carnivals because nobody else would book him.

The internet is whatever you make it. There's a bottomless pit of brain-rotting cat videos on the net for boring people to waste their lives on, but you can also find just about every book worth reading, as well as the opportunity to talk with intellectuals all over the world. If you're really picky about having your books in paper, you can always print them. That said, Jim Cornette doesn't strike me as a highly educated man with hundreds of key books on a variety of intellectual topics under his belt. I think that he reads novels and listens to a lot of NPR.

I didn't say that he doesn't have a great mind for the wrestling business. He suggested at the end that he spends a lot of time reading books that challenge you and teach you things about the world. I don't believe that for a second. The guy barely knows what inflation is, you don't hear him discussing a lot of scientific literature or anything, and he eats up every leftist myth and half-baked train of thought without an ounce of second guessing. This isn't a guy who's read Nietzsche and Orwell comprehensively.

Cornette is a dumb wrestling mark who thinks he’s a tough guy. He’s maybe a notch above Meltzer in that he’s worked legitimately in the business as a booker but has never taken a bump...and he talks shit about guys without everconfronting them
