For real, especially when talking about pizza. Everyone knows the only real good pizza is a proper Neapolitan pizza, straight out of the oven, topped with delicious tomato and beautiful mozzarella (possibly a couple of slices of salami, I like that), and some basil on top.

I grew up always eating New York pizza, but I still enjoy some square slices like Sicilian. And I don't know what Jim is talking about "no topping pizza like you have up in New York" given I used to often get pepperoni or chicken slices (chicken on the pizza) as my go to slice in New York or Hoboken (used to live in Hoboken, would travel into NYC a lot.) It's just Brian and his particular stubborn insistence on NEVER mixing meat and cheese on ANY dish that I've heard him mention, that makes him get plain ass pizza all the time and try to glorify it, not New York in general, lol. I hope Jim understands this. Also, I wonder if (since Brian is Jewish, as he's mentioned) if he doesn't mix meat and cheese because he follows that aspect of Jewish religious law, or if it's just his general taste, since not every Jewish person follows those dietary laws strictly. Somehow, in all the times this argument with meat and cheese has come up on the podcast over the years, Brian has NEVER clarified this point, lol.

My main problem with most of Brian's takes on food is his refusal to ever mix meat and cheese, but I think that might be part of his religious faith. He NEVER clarifies this point and I'm surprised Jim has never asked every time they argue about this, lol.

As someone with roots in the Chicago area, I will say that St. Louis style pizza is a horrible provincial backwater when it comes to pizzas. Give me the Chicago "tavern style" thin crust (which does generally adopt the square cut) or classic NY style any day of the week. Also, people who don't eat their crust are heathens and Brian's right you want that baked sauce around the rim.

I wanted to knock your pizza choices but I realized you said tavern style and I've never even heard of Chicago tavern-style. I just think this stereotypical Chicago-style pizza is a mess. Honestly I thought this way too when I was younger, crust was the part we threw away, no one wanted that stuff, it was dry, didn't taste like much and was merely the piece you used to hold up the good stuff with. That was before I actually ate real quality pizza. The crust being dull and unappealing is an undeniable sign of a bad quality pizza. A good pizza makes you crave the crust as much as the middle part, just like a good loaf of bread makes you desire the crust as much if not more than the middle part.

Jim Cornette was the first celebrity to go on record about Imo's during a bumper for an up-coming house show way back in 87. Jimmy Kimmel hates it with a passion along with Judah Freidlander who felt the need to write a whole column on it. Simone Biles, Jon Hamm, Jenna Fischer will fight you over slandering it. There is no middle ground.
