Cornett himself was comedic in nature because of how over the top he was as a manager, but when his boys were winning it was insufferable, and when he was getting his comeuppance it was both hilarious and an exercise of justice. You either were incensed at him laughing at you, or you were laughing at him. Not the same as the "it's all silly" comedic wrestlers intended.
@imneveruploadinghere7180
@imneveruploadinghere7180 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, Jim would gladly do comedic spots like his face getting smooshed on a cake and wearing a silly little dress if the comedy would have a serious payoff in the feud. Modern comedy wrestling is comedy for the sake of comedy, not to further a feud.

Comedy in wrestling only works if its organic and is a “part” of a personality. When a wrestler only tries to be known as a comedy guy, it gets old quick. Nobody would consider Ric Flair a comedy wrestler. However, Flair has given me a lifetime of laughs. Humor is a n element in Flair’s repertoire that goes along with his ability to make new talent and put them over the moon.

Believe it or not, I'd put Arn Anderson on that list. He shouldn't be labeled as a 'comedy wrestler', but he did some brilliant, short comedy spots that would get a small pop from the crowd and get them into the match early on. He'd do a move where he would dodge the babyface's attack and then turn to the crowd and point to his brain to show how smart he was and then the babyface would hit him with a schoolboy and he'd make an expression of bewilderment. He was great at making these stunned reactions of the face getting over on him. It ended up getting the fans into the match, getting the face over and not exposing the business or making it look silly.

Les Kellet was known for his Punch Drunk style of wrestling and his tech work and was big time over with the fans in England, my grandad was a fan of Les. Les Kellet was also the inspiration for Nigel Mcguiness to do the Rebound Lariat as Les would do the same but with a Headbutt. Santino appealing to a child that child being Vince McMahon.

Ric Flair is the most comical wrestler of all time.......the idea that this old incredibly cowardly man is the most decorated champion of all time lol, dropping to his knees and begging his opponent, falling flat on his face, giving low blows out like theres no tomorrow, stripping his clothes in the middle of the ring, elbowing the canvas, Ric was comedic gold.........prob the funniest skit ever in wrestling was Ric Flair going crazy with Jay lethal

@@Tony-fq5bn but growing up most kids didn't actually watch wrestling. There are a lot that did but most didn't because it's too silly and too much. I watched it back then but now when I look back i wouldn't make it through 1 show. Why? Because it's phony and for every good moment there's 5 of the most hokey things you'll ever see and that's just on one show. Most of the feuds were childish and even the one's that made sense eventually it stopped making sense because anything that works in the wrestling business they beat you to death with it until you turn away and want bo part of it.

Definitely not a “comedy wrestler” but was cool with making fun of himself or being put in funny situations and that is Kurt Angle. Early to mid 2000’s heel Angle = 😂. From his character being so clueless to where he couldn’t tell he was making a fool out of himself to the way he reacted to the “What?” Chants was hilarious. Angle is one of those guys who has a great comedic side to him.
