As much as people make it seem like the rock attempted to go “hogan” at this years WM, they overlook the fact that WWE wanted to do Rock v Roman a few years ago before Cody even returned; just couldn’t make it happen. I’m glad they decided to go this route though because they have multiple routes they could go storyline wise. You're not the first to notice it, Brian. The day after Wrestlemania, The Rock announced he would be in the main event of the next WrestleMania against John Cena. Which meant it didn't matter how over you got or how hard you worked, in 364 days, it was The Rock in the main event. And thats exactly what happened and exactly why CM Punk was pissed. And to top it all off, the match was built on a lie. "Once in a Lifetime" ended up being "Once This Year." People noticed it when The Rock came back and had a "match" with Erik Rowan at Mania and SQUASHED him in the middle of the Wyatt's hot run. I noticed it when The Rock said he was back and he was never going away again, and then we only saw him on his birthday, and a couple times when they were in Florida.
