Different era. When he had returned to the WWF in 98, it was a totally different vibe than it was in 1992-93. In the early 90's, he was the most over the top character in the WWF. But by 98, anyhow he changed his character to a more sinister swat officer. The fans still looks at him as a yesterday news and they were doing the same thing with Barry Windham, Davey Boy, and Mr. Perfect. It wasn't until Hogan returned to the WWF, that the fans finally accepted and welcome back a lot of former WWF stars from the Hogan's era like Roddy Piper, Bob Orton, and Greg Valentine.

@@philliplandry4139 I think it had more to do with booking. For the first few months of 1999, he was feuding with Mideon & Mabel. After that, it was the stupid feuds with Al Snow & Big Show.
@philliplandry4139
@philliplandry4139 2 ай бұрын
@davebrayfb True, but he wasn't the only one who was booked improperly. There were a lot of guys from his era except HBK, Godfather, and Undertaker that Vince started to mistreat in favor of the Attitude Era guys. For example, Bret Hart was the first victim, and then it went through Owen, Mabel, Jeff Jarrett, Davey Boy, and so on. I always felt that around this time, Vince were treating the guys from the Federation Era like crap. The only group of guys that Vince didn't buried the most was the ones that came from early to mid 90's WCW roster.

They likely had at least one before that one made it to TV. Matches were recycled a lot during that time when WWE was on the road going from city to city. Ray Traylor as the Big Boss Man was really good. I didn't know that he was Big Bubba Rogers in the UWF and JCP until later. When he came back to the WWF in 1998, he had lost weight and dressed like a SWAT officer. Traylor had a great career overall.

I had always assumed/heard that Bossman left (or stepped back from) the WWF in early 1993 to heal from nagging injuries - he had gained a ton of weight back between Survivor Series 1992 and Royal Rumble 1993 (but was still way thinner than 1988/89 Bossman), plus his right hand was taped up. He had also fallen down the card after his program with Nailz - he was constantly being jobbed to Razor Ramon, Bam Bam Bigelow, and Yokozuna until he left.

his former manger slick said great things about one man gang/akeem, but did really coment about bossman other than they drew money as combo. When pushed if he had anything good to say about him he just said "not really...let just say he's agood ole boy from cobb co. georgia". Reading between the lines of that statement..he a biggoted prick, BUT..@ least we drew good money as a combo so it was somewhat bearable. Not sure if one man gang/akeem is on record about his former partner. i'll have to look into that.

The feds almost never lose a case. Usually wait until they have solid evidence before going for a conviction. Extremely high conviction rate that has been steadily rising since the 70s.

Ironically enough, one of the reasons, Vince beat the case was because of Nailz’s testimony (the same Nailz who had choked him out and called the police on him for touching him) and admitting under oath that he hated him.
@williamblackfyre4866

@Nathaniel Baxter I know, that was I was getting at and why the boys thought he was going to get locked up. I actually got curious and read over some court documents and interviews from around that time. It seems Vince had SOME plausible deniability. That Dr Zombrano or whatever his name was was acting exactly like a drug dealer. Around the time the investigation started, the PA sports governing bodies were being petitioned for WWF to no longer be in their jurisdiction. Meaning they would be able to appoint their own refs, timekeepers, and such to keep it 'legit'. One of those caveats was they would be able to select their own ringside dr instead of being appointed. Well someone at Titan sports did not want the Zambrano guy at the PA events. There was alot of pushback but Scales (the exec) hired someone else and Dr Z showed up anyway because Pat Patterson called him. When WWF got wind of the investigation, Patterson made the Dr call in on a pay phone so he could tell him to get rid of all the evidence. It seemed to be Vince would talk to Linda, who would talk to Pat, who would walk to Pritchard or directly to the Dr himself. It was really interesting stuff, sadly the rest of the information was blocked behind a paywall. The book was called 'Boys need their Candy' or something like that. That was a quote from Dr Z, when he found out WWF wasn't going to appoint him in PA, he said that dumb shit. But my point is, Vince seemed to keep several people between himself and the Dr....with the exception of the drugs he got off him (which was referenced in Bret Harts book).
