Funnily enough, it's the truth. The NRA and Republican party (as it's existed since the 1950s) have only supported a gun ban ONCE. That was, as has been mentioned, when the BPP had armed demonstrations. So, Jim is 100% accurate.

Lol, I believe we can be civil. I have several far right friends and we've been friends for life. I talk crap to them all the time, but we are friends and they know that if they needed anything I'd be there and vice versa. We agree on a lot of things and disagree where we disagree, but we don't hate each other over our differences. This is what people are missing today. Us regular everyday people who don't care what our neighbors are doing so long as they don't affect others have let the fringe/radical people from both sides take over the political discourse in this nation. We need to fix that else division will lead to catastrophe.

The Second Amendment basically says because we must have a military, the right of the people to bear arms shall not be infringed. The major argument between the founding fathers was whether we should have a standing army or not. They did not want a standing army, because they were afraid that they would attack the people. Once they agreed that they must have a standing Army, they decided that they must also say that the people should never ever have their guns taken away. They did this because they were afraid of a standing army, because of their past experience with the British. So, the Second Amendment says, "A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state" (because we must have a standing army), " the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed" ( our citizens should never have their right to bear arms removed).
