I’m late and only 9 minutes in but he’s not 100% correct. There’s a reason Vince pushed “sports entertainment” so strongly as opposed to “professional wrestling.” It’s a show. You don’t have to think it’s real to be entertained. That’s like asking actors why they make movies since everyone knows they’re fake lol. The problem is the product isn’t as entertaining anymore. Whether that has to do with the cultural zeitgeist, the over analyzation of the product, the creative behind the product, etc is up for debate. But the issue isn’t that the business has been exposed. That’s a very ancient way of looking at things.

@@guwopman3503thinking of "the business is exposed" as the same as "people know it's a work" is a faulty way of seeing it, and it's exactly why people like YOU don't understand what Jim is saying. YOU are the only one who is wrong here. Everyone knows it's a work. Just like everyone knows Movies didn't really happen that way... But "exposing the business" doesn't mean letting people know the winners are chosen, or that it's entertainment. "Exposing the business" means when you allow every random person to think they can be part of it. When you start letting every single person look into the ingredients and you cheapen the entire effect of the effort of wrestlers. Look at Magicians... No one EVER thought stage magic was actual magic. They know it's a trick. But is every magician running around giving out their secrets to any asshole who asks? No. Because of that mentality, we end up with garbage like AEW and Deathmatch backyard nonsense. You may wanna get a little more insight into the business before you start trying to pretend you know more than Jim Cornette, that's pretty embarrassing for you.

The modern wrestling crowd is comprised of critics. Not fans. A fan is someone emotionally invested in an outcome (they hate one side and like the other). A critic, on the other hand, watches to judge the performances and applaud or chant for the best performer even if that's the character they're supposed to boo. So you have an audience comprised largely of ppl who are there to judge the show rather than enjoy it.

Because the writing today is fucking terrible. Is it that difficult to understand? It has nothing to do with whether it's real or not. Everyone knows it isn't real but if the story being told (whether in the ring or through promos) is hard to follow, stupid, corny, boring, etc. then people aren't going to want to watch it. And wrestling has been all those things for a long time now. That's why people like Corny who fell in love with the business and grew up in it are so annoyed with the product today. Wrestlers used to have charisma and were often given interesting stories to tell. They also knew how to tell interesting stories through the actual matches with what they were doing. It allowed your imagination to take over a little bit so you could enjoy it.

@jamesteegardner22734 жыл бұрын
@@robertt9342 I'm fairly certain my voting preference is no danger to our Democracy, and that our Republic will endure even with me ONLY voting for Republicans. Also, I'm not sure where you live, but as I said before I'm a New Yorker and I live in Queens. Right now NYC is a city on the precipice, just like many other big cities that have been traditionally governed by a super-majority of Democrat politicians. The last time I can remember New York City being a decent place to live was when Rudy Giuliani, a Republican was mayor. So we'll have to agree to disagree on politics, because I haven't seen one single good thing come from Democrat leadership on my local level. It's so bad that I bought a second home in the Poconos, Pennsylvania just so I can vote for the President there. I know my vote for the POTUS in New York doesn't count for shit, so I got a nice place in the mountains far away from the city in a battleground state where my vote actually matters. I can't wait till I have enough money that I can retire there and leave New York permanently!

I actually dislike the the BS trash talking in UFC. It makes MMA seem fake.
@Danimal11777 жыл бұрын
My first thought was that Jimmy should get a job with UFC to assist the competitors with their promos and trash-talking, but then I realized that the wwe basically does that with their "talent" now and those promos sound so scripted and horrible. I don't think you can make someone into a good talker; it has to be something they are born with.
@Sweeptheleg836 жыл бұрын
Not necessarily. Just give them bullet points, not word for word promos. Austin wasnt a great talker till Heyman gave him some tips on how to channel his anger into promos. The over scripted shit sucks but if you allow a guy to talk & give him bullet points he can improve. Some just wont be able to do it but some will thrive.

Blame it on social media and all the Pro wrestling news outlets who always complain about wwe and praise indy. Fans begin to think they know it all and should decide the matches.

Jim cornette said that the fans hijack the shows because they're smart to wrestling, fans became smart to wrestling in 1986 (thanks in part to David Schultz), and they weren't hijacking shows back then, why did they wait 30 years to start hijacking shows, and this chick has a seductive voice

Jalapeño Popper I started watching in 1985 as a 6 year old. I fell in love right off the bat. Now fast forward two years later. My parents used to get home delivery of the Detroit News. Now, I had never seen the John Stossel Dr. D incident. So one day, I'm reading through the sports pages and in the back, I found a column detailing results of house shows and the writer also included events that haven't happened yet. That was how I figured out what was up. In fact, the Detroit News report, which came out every other friday, was how I found out Owen Hart was the Blue Blazer. Even knowing that and future results, it still didn't deter me from enjoying wrestling.

Look also for us who grew up in the 80s , 90s with the gimmicks and the attitude era and even then there were gimmicks just not as corny as the 80s . But this reality era is dumb . They are trying to be up there with MMA and make it seem really real . I'm sorry there top guys now Roman, KO , that yes no guy with the shaggy look Bryant or what ever his name is . They cant stand next to Austin, rock , taker , warrior , savage , early Hogan, hart , HBK and so on . Fuck the PC bullshit and take it back to the attitude era and stop forcing this outta shape , small , tiny , no personality having , cant talk , avg Joe guy .... that's another reason why its failing... and the things cornette said

too bad ufc is turning into sports entertainment with the crap that conor mcgregor does. he literally gets arrested on purpose to avoid defending the 2 belts that he is the champion of.

@@SAM-ru4vx McGregor also massively boosted interest in the UFC and his shenanigans sells a shit ton of tickets. UFC's biggest problem is the rampant push to have their fighters self promote, and the only way a fighter can shamelessly self promote is to smack talk and hope they can back it up. Controversy sells.

@@ChristopherJames1993 Then you don't remember his stint in UFC too well. Brock had his fair share on controversial moments as well, whether it was smack talking Mir then acting like he was reeling him in like a fish after their second fight or other in ring shenanigans like acting like he was riding a bull on top of another fighter, or nearly losing UFC their beer sponsorship at the time by saying screw that beer I'm gonna do drink another beer (cant remember the brands) then go home and get on my wife lmao. He had his moments that sold tickets too man.
@TrippyTheShroom4 жыл бұрын
@@ChristopherJames1993 Then then whole return with Mark Hunt where he was, clearly, on the juice and UFC let him fight anyway to sell tickets. He definitely had some controversy to help sell and UFC/Dana White was perfectly willing to let it slide, minus the beer sponsorship kerfuffle because that moment has basically been erased from UFC records.

Hate watching. That's been the WWE fan base pissing and moaning for the last 18 years! The "I'm done with the WWE" group who have nothing going on in their lives, and get pissed off at every ppv, but tune in to Raw the following night and keep dragging on through life because they have nothing else to fill the void! I called it quits on the modern product in 2009. There is plenty enough pro wrestling material from the previous 30 years to watch.

The Wrestling business sucks because nobody is growing up or going out wanting to be a professional wrestler anymore. I did not know until recently that WWE is going out and soliciting ppl to be wrestlers? What in the entire fuck. The moment you have to go find ppl that you then you then have to entice into being wrestlers is phony. 90% of the guys previously WANTED to be wrestlers(except maybe Lugar,Warrior,Sable,etc) but point is you cant make an athlete and it shows.I stopped watching Wrestling when WCW died and not even because I was a WCW fan or anything but the Vince doesnt age his product with its fans,it stays juvenile. Im 30 and just now only getting back into it because of the network.

I like Jim Cornette. I too am a fan of Wrestling for a long time. I have been watching for 45 years. But, I don't agree that wrestling is dead. It has its ups and downs, the nature and quality changes over time. But it is not dead. Hell, Wrestlemania 33 had more live attendees than Wrestlemania 3. Despite being pre-determined I enjoy wrestling. I allow a suspension of disbelief and try to understand the motives of both the fictional characters and the actuality behind the scenes. While I like Jim Cornette, he does have to leave the 1950's behind and learn that things change and evolve. But then, if he did not rant about wrestling who would listen to his podcasts? He needs to keep them alive somehow.
