One takeaway I get from this video is that despite his intense dislike of Shawn Michaels, he is more than willing to give credit if the guy truly is talented. That's why it's easier to believe and side with ol'Corny in certain arguments.

i just googled "shawn michaels vader summerslam" and the full match came up in a video block. the time is 29;42 and it's the full uncut match that they're commenting. good quality too thankfully. and there are a lot of audio cues you can use to make sure you're in sync with them - right before the bell listen for corny to talk about merch (hbk's heart-shaped glasses and lawler's crown), then his point about how soft the lockup is after the bell. shoutout to the OP for pointing this out! it's definitely worth watching with their commentary.

No disrespect to Vader, but when someone stinks unbearably (according to literally everyone), refuses to wash their gear (which is as disrespectful to your co-workers as what Michaels did) at a job you are forced to be touching them constantly the way wrestlers have to, I can't blame Michaels for having a short temper working with him. That's disgusting and would be enraging to deal with.

I was at SS 96. First ppv I ever went to. I was 14. Will never forget that show. I remember being so pissed about the boiler room brawl. I was in the nose bleeds and the crew brought TVs out to ringside for the fans to watch. I was there too, 12 years old. The Boiler Room Brawl was definitely a letdown. We were in seats that were too low to have a good view of the arena screen above, and too far away from the classroom TV carts that they wheeled out. So we could barely tell what was happening. Just some shapes moving around on the tiny screens and the sound of Mankind grunting and metal crashing. 😆

Busy in covering current products... Both the promotions (WWE and AEW) and their news, updates, etc. They take the majority of both podcasts now. Back then the podcasts were all about these vids and other history recaps and all but then demands for current products went sky high, so much so that they go to New Japan or even Stardom sometimes (if an American star is featured). To an extent it is cool but I wish such different oriented topics would be covered too, like before. Also recently Last opened up about not taking many questions as of late for the Drive Thru (due to the same reasons told earlier - them covering a plethora of shows back and forth) and promised to change that.

It’s interesting that in the 2000’s, Shawn did some kinda commentary on his match with Sid at SS 96, and he noted that he didn’t get Sid’s style then (which I took to mean big guys in general) the way he does now, and how in hindsight he would’ve had a completely different match with Sid today. Shawn did the long shine at the beginning the of match for 2 reasons 1. To make himself look good 2. To blow up Vader so when it was his turn to build heat he looked slow and worse compared to Shawn. Shawn did this kind of shit with big opponents like Vader and Diesel etc, to make them look bad and himself better by comparison. People say Hogan was one of the most selfish people in wrestling, well Shawn was not far behind him.

Jim - to tell you something you already know - you are a brilliant wrestling mind, not that you need or care for my opinion but man that was some awesome insight! And the fact that almost all of it was from memory, wow man. Impressive. More 90s WWF!

Just watched an interview on youtube with Bruce Pritchard regarding this match and the fallout, Pritchard says the likes of Bret hart and john cena would be unprofessional in that moment when Vader didn't move, apparently hogan wouldn't do it. In my opinion I very much doubt Bret hart would do such a thing, Bruce Pritchard seems to me to be an unhonest WWF mark, or should I say a Vince mcmhan kiss arse, heard Pritchard a few times and yea he obviously knows what has happened but he spins it his or Vince's way, he is lacking a spine in my opinion, god bless Jim cornette for telling the truth

Bret would have been annoyed but he wouldn't have been unprofessional in the ring. He might have chewed someone out backstage, but he would do his best to make sure nobody watching the match would notice something might have gone wrong.

@@Kwert I could see Bret doing one of his forward elbow drops and then whispering to Vader to move when he came down on the mat. I don't recall ever hearing Bret talking in the ring, and remember, he had to deal with a doped up Bulldog who forgot the entire match at Summerslam. I'm sure Vader would have been fine. I'd have understood Vader being more concerned about the Kliq's stroke when Hall and Nash were there, but by Summerslam they and Waltman had gone. Helmsley meant nothing at that point, so Michaels was making threats with zero backup.

@@dirtmcgirt8269 That's a bit of a stretch as to not put him in the Top 50. If he's not Top 50 then Will and Jada Pinkett Smith have a perfect marriage. @@James-xx4kb I agree that he was a great worker, but if I would have to create my own dream wrestling company, I wouldn't choose him. I don't see him bringing anything unique to the table, I don't think he ever had "it". I would rather have some obscure, but remembable midcarder like I.R.S or Adrian Adonis in place of him. To me he is probably the most bland champ before WWE became a limited company. Yes he knew how to work, but wrestling is much more about presentation than skill. Goldberg, Warrior & Hogan were clearly worse workers, but they were bigger champions, because they had the presense. Michaels felt like a jobber, who for some reason always won in the end.

I couldn't agree more when Jim talks about the sterile stage entrances where everyfuckinbody has to do their exact walk down the aisle and pose and do the same goddamn thing every time they come out. What are they robots? It's so infuriating when two wrestlers are in a heated feud but once they come out they have to do their signature posing. Bullshit.
