We started a "Hacksaw sucks!" chant one time when the WWF was in town, and Herc was his opponent. Neither he nor Duggan knew what to do, but after a few seconds, the whole arena was in on it. After a bit, Herc starts waving at us to keep it up, and even though he had to do the job that night, he got up on the second rope and flexed for us. We cheered him. "You'll get him next time, Herc!" :P Herc was awesome.

That last line about not punching the guy is absolutely the best line to end on, I'm in pain from hearing it... THAT is how powerful Hercules slap is, I'm feeling it in my diaphragm over a decade later and he didn't even hit me!
@EnforcerX719 жыл бұрын
What says it all is Barry Darsow saying "I'd hit you, but I can't possibly hit you as hard as he's gonna hit when he comes back here..." The same Barry Darsow who was a nightclub bouncer in Minnesota with the likes of The Road Warriors, Curt Hennig & Rick Rude.
@attentionwrestlingdisorder15877 жыл бұрын
I think it was more of how mad herc was at the fan I'm sure strength wise Darsow is comparably strong to herc sometimes stiff slapping someone hard goes past strength it digs into desire to hit them cuz you're mad

This is amazing stuff! I never knew Hercules Hernandez did that to a fan. XD Wow, nearly two years old comment. Time goes by so quickly.
@FerretJohn10 жыл бұрын
Hernandez was one of the legitimately toughest men in the ring, he was on the top of the pile in many a bar brawl, clearing the bar while the drunken bad-asses were laying there wondering who laid down the train tracks inside the building. The general rule in wrestling is You Don't Touch The Fans, unless they touch you first, then of course all bets are off.
@TroydragonBelmont10 жыл бұрын
Yeah, fans should never try to hit the wrestlers… but overall seeing them trying to hit them is pretty funny, i remember starrcade, Hulk Hogan vs Roddy Piper, a fan tried to get in the ring, Hogan and the referee beat the guy, hah!

In the last 30 years, Cornette has worked for virtually every major U.S. based promotion: NWA, AWA, WWF(&E),TNA,WCW.... In recent years, the number of wrestlers he's created for the WWE in developmental leagues like Smoky Mountain Wresting and Ohio Valley Wrestling is phenomenal. In addition, he's managed several world champions, he's legendary on the mic, and IF he's not currently working for a "big league company," it's probably because he doesn't want to.

Maybe not now given how soft everything is, but you gotta understand this was a different time. You used to actually have to do damage to someone to get an assault charge, now simply touching someone is grounds for one. Plus if you listened to any of Cornette's other interviews, like the RF video shoot in 2000, you would know that wrestlers got away with alot. Bill Watts openly hit people attacking his heels right in front of cops, but because he was so famous there they didn't arrest him.

And there is one other thing. Vince McMahon and most of his staff have a very pronounced distaste towards the more traditional style of professional wrestling, as well as shoot-style forms of wrestling. This is one reason the likes of Keiji Mutoh and Masahiro Chono never performed in the WWE/F (Although I and a few others would have paid dearly to see it.)
@DevilTakeMe12 жыл бұрын
And that's the reason why Cornette doesn't work for them. It's not even wrestling anymore, right? It's "Sports Entertainment," and it's not even entertaining enough to watch. It's too corporate, too packaged, too artificial. And with that, comes the corporate mindset, which a guy like Cornette cannot agree with. His biggest problems in the business have always been from what happens behind the scenes, not with angles or anything. Kevin Dunn, Vince Russo, Johnny Ace, etc. Office politics.

That sounds like a BS story.. The cops won't allow you to hurt a guy once they've pulled him aside.
@RobwLPOC6 жыл бұрын
Keep in mind this would have been around 35 years ago in the 80's. The cops were generally off duty and being paid by the promoter to be there. Different time different era. Bobby Heenan did a shoot where he mentioned the cops held the guy for him and gave him one shot for retribution after he had attacked Bobby. (Hilariously as he was lining the guy up another wrestler punted the guy in the nuts causing Bobby to miss and almost break his hand on the wall.) Back in those days if you came over the railing you were fair game. Even today It is considered criminal trespass and you have the right to do whatever you pretty much want to a trespasser that is trying to assault you. Only the legal ramifications stop this from happening today. Back in the days of the territories, the wrestler would never even be charged let alone sued. The police chiefs etc were generally friends with the promoters and they would look the other way because the events brought money to the towns.
