Jim Cramer: Preparing the portfolio for the Joe Biden era

Joe Biden signed more than a dozen executive orders after taking the presidential oath of office Wednesday, undoing some actions taken by his predecessor over the last four years and prompting CNBC’s Jim Cramer to dream up two new market themes for 2021.
The new investment ideas involve electric vehicles and housing and are an appendix to 10 investment themes he expects Wall Street to follow that he introduced at the beginning of the month.
“Be ready for more stringent environmental regulations that push people into electronic vehicles,” he said on “Mad Money” after Wednesday’s close.
As part of his first executive actions taken, President Biden signed an order for the U.S. to rejoin the Paris Agreement on Climate Change, an international accord formed under the Obama administration, moving away from environmental policies put forth by the Trump administration.
The country’s renewed focus on tackling climate change, Cramer said, will be a boon for established electric car companies and green energy producers, like Tesla and Plug Power, as well as the bevy of budding electric vehicle producers coming public via blank check mergers.
Cramer’s watchlist includes Lordstown Motors, Northern Genesis, the special purpose acquisition company (SPAC) merging with Canadian manufacturer The Lion Electric, and Ciig Merger, a SPAC targeting British carmaker Arrival.
Additionally, Cramer said he is warming up to the electrification efforts being made by traditional carmakers like Ford and General Motors.
Housing is another market of opportunity on the “Mad Money” host’s theme list. His forecast is powered by Biden’s stance on immigration. The Democrat also signed orders to end Trump’s Muslim ban and reverse a Trump order to exclude undocumented immigrants from the reapportionment of House seats.
The Biden administration also pledged to send lawmakers an immigration reform measure that would provide an eight-year pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and includes language for refugees.
The pro-immigration stance could help homebuilders even more as millions of new consumers would gain more to the housing market, Cramer said, pointing to stocks like Toll Brothers, KB Home, Pultegroup, DR Horton and Lennar.
“After what we’ve heard from Fed Chief Jerome Powell and incoming Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen, I believe [interest] rates are going to stay low for a long time, maybe years,” he said. “There are at least 10 million undocumented immigrants who will soon be able to come out of the shadows and ask for credit to buy a home and that will be amazing for the homebuilders.”

I am conservative and do feel we need to reduce our fiscal federal spending and may need to raise taxes, but only for the purpose of paying DOWN our debt. I do not agree with higher taxes if we are going to give it away to unless issue like $25,000,000 for Gender studies in Pakistan.

Even if money is bookmarked under “gender studies” the money isn’t getting sent because that country needs that, it’s because as the leading country in the world that’s how we maintain control over the other first world countries. We pay Pakistan because we pay India. We pay India because we are allies and they need help with their issues. We pay Egypt for the right to use their waterways for trade. Ext... you make it sounds so basic, but the truth is most conservatives have a very basic understanding of macroeconomics and world relations. Side note : our national debt is very low compared to our gdp it would be wasteful to pay it now because the US dollar goes through periods of inflation.

For now, the proposed raise on capital gains tax is only for capital gains in excess of $1 million. The top capital gains tax bracket will be taxed as ordinary income (proposed 39.6% I believe) instead of the 20% it's taxed at now. I don't think any of us here net $1 million+ in realized capital gains annually... if you do, then congratulations, you've done very well for yourself. But I think you will continue to be ok... your first $999,999 will still be taxed the same way it always was. I do hope this isn't a "slippery slope" as they say that leads to increased capital gains taxes slowly creeping down to lower and lower income levels... disincentivizing middle class people from investing with the tax code is a bad idea in my opinion... but the proposed plan as it is now is genuinely nothing to be concerned about, and this is coming from someone who is very centrist and in now way a liberal. Relax. It's gonna be fine.

Here is what I want to know. The market has had a phenomenal run up. Yet, I want to know why I have not heard a single word from these so-called analysts about the run up. Where is "the mkt has gone to far to fast", "we are in correction territory", "the mkt cannot continue to go up in a straight line", "we are due for a pull back", "we are headed for a 15 percent correction", "stocks have gotten a head of themselves", "where is the growth", "where is the value". I heard a saying years ago regarding the NFL: "Offense sells tickets, defense wins championships". I think the point here is that "Offense sells tickets". Some of the best "seasoned" investors are NOT paying for these high (vs. historical) price multiples (EVEN with the buckets of cash from the fed handouts). Costco is trading around 23 times earnings (the historical avg. being below 16x and swings from below 12x up to now 23x) so Buffett sold his.

Above all those recommend stocks, to me is Boeing. Not only is not even half it's all-time high, wich equals safety, but is the only one with a turnaround story that is unfolding right before our eyes. Inflation, China, the Max, recertification world wide, vaccines and resurgence of travel and leisure. All others are too high right now and even if they might go up, their previous advance might make them subject of a correction of 10 or even 20% and if that happens and you are all in with margin, your losses will wipe out all your previous gains and more. Stay put, stay wise!
