Jim Croce had some truly enchanting guitar work in his music. He is the reason I bought an acoustic guitar in 1975 (traded in my fender mustang).
@chateaubullion256010 ай бұрын
For me it was after hearing "Operator" I went out and bought a cheap Takamine acoustic. Today I own better guitars (Yamaha, Martin, Taylor) but will never be able to play like Gabriella. By the way, I still own that Takamine.
@phillipcmiller9910 ай бұрын
@@chateaubullion2560 yep, it was Operator that first worked the Croce magic on me, too. I traded for a cheap knock-off copy of a Gibson Dove (the name on the headstock was Conrad). When I joined the Navy and finally had a little money of my own I bought a new Martin D-35 ($860 in 1975). I learned to play most of the Croce songs I liked from the songbooks that were available in the 70s. Pete Huttlinger put out a “How to Play Croce” instructional DVD in the early 2000s which was outstanding. I recommend it to any Croce fan😊

One of my favorite artists growing up. It was a tough thing to deal with back then as a kid. I'd just begun playing guitar, and was still trying to learn "Time in a Bottle, (basic version, nothing as you did on that song, nor this incredible version, lol), when the news broke of his plane crash.... This single? Was released the very next day. It was hard to put the two together, this incredible, brilliant new song, and a legend, (in my eyes, at that time), passing so suddenly away. The man could play & sing & tell a story with his music. Can you imagine, Gabriella, with the play styles of today, (like yourself, Mike Dawes, Tommy Emmanuel, and the innovation of people like Luca Stricagnoli & Matteo Mancuso), how Jim Croce might have re-worked some of his songs? Bet he'd be damn proud of your arraignment. Wonderful job.

Gabriella - I have been watching your videos for several years, but I just now realized that you are a timeless angel... Every song you play, I get this feeling of being transported to a different place and time... I can easily see how your spirit would have performed for Kings of a Medieval time and how much joy you would have brought them... I am amazed by your captivating beauty and your amazing interpretation of all your songs... Bravo... Technology is so awesome that a commoner like myself can watch you in my own living room - I am in awe and it is a privilege to watch and listen to you play... I am going to see if you have recorded a version of Scarborough Fair, as this I understand is based on a very old piece of music from the era of Kingdoms and royalty...

Fantastic arrangement! I've always wondered what us audience members can infer about Gabriella's musical tastes from her selected songs. Is this one of her old-familiar comfort sings (like it is for us OGs that can actually remember when it was released.)? In putting together the arrangement, she spends a bit of time deconstructing, reassembling the song voices, and then presenting with feeling/emotion.
