I have several pairs of jg boots. I own this boot and it has become my go-to for everything from taking out the garbage to traveling. you need to break in a pair of boots so they don't pull on your socks and so they don't hurt your feet. 4 miles isn't enough time. I would have given them 40 miles before throwing the towel. because that would have given the heel stay of the boot enough time to conform to your foot and not pull on your socks. the boot is wide and it doesn't feel floppy on my foot but it is nice and roomy. if you have wide feet you'll love it if your feet are narrow you should try it and see.

Thanks for that advice. I'll consider giving them another shot down the road.

The reason this Stockman is bigger and roomier is because it uses the JG Last, which is EEE in width. Perhaps you can half-size down or use a thicker insole to solve this problem. Another version of the Stockman with a steel toe uses the STC Last, which is EE in width, and slightly narrower than your current version. Jim Green does have a narrower last with a D width called ASHM Last, which as far as I know is used only on Numzaan and Baobab boots. If you really want the snug feel, I suggest choosing their custom section and selecting the ASHM last for the Stockman Chelsea.

Jim greens "fudge" leather is actually a crazy horse leather, which is technically full grain but tanned using a hot wax process that leaves it with a very smooth satin finish that looks like a smoother nubuck.

That makes sense. Thanks!

My slip on Redbacks also are wide and bunch up my socks-but not if I wear thick ones. Medium weight wool Darn Tough are my go-to boot socks and my preference. But thick Smart Wool or another brand is needed to fill them up and stop slipping. I even tried two insoles in mine to fill them up and be able to wear medium weight socks but it didn't work.

Great review! I have a pair of JG Outbacks that I put custom insoles in. I used the Dr. Scholls Tri-comfort insole ($10-15) and dropped it in right on top of the factory insole. This virtually eliminated heal-slip and provided a snug fit with arch support. This insole is 3/4 length so it leaves my toes with all of the available space in the wide toe box.

Out of the 3 jim green boots I have the barefoot shoes are my favorite. They fit perfect for me and have not break in. The other 2 still have some break in to do.

I have 3 pairs of Jim Green my favorite pair are the barefoot Jim greens. They are the most comfortable. The other 2 pairs are not as comfortable and the sole is convex which drives my foot crazy. I mean it is odd because the middle of the foot touches the ground but the big toe and pinky toe never end up touching the ground because of the convex sole also the middle toes do touch the ground. I did contact jim green about it and they were willing to fix it for me but I decided to keep them. A fix I found was to put rock rooster insoles in them and because those are so think and compress easy they pretty much take care of the problem or it is not as noticeable.
@yair132411 ай бұрын
the fudge leather is stated as nubuck in their youtube videos. but on their website it is stated as full grain leather, which is probably just a copy paste from the brown colorway.

My last comment was long. I forgot to mention that I love the width. It would never be bad for me. I love how it is basically shaped exactly like my foot. I call them the perfect width but for me there is no wiggle room as I said they are perfect width meaning my toes touch the sides at all times. However that basically means they fit like a glove, hence the perfect width. Any way I have heard others not like the width and interestingly enough Jim green does make a more narrow pair which probably would not fit me at all. Also most other boots and shoes, Almost all other boots and shoes are way to narrow even when you buy wide. Also some times the toe box is wide but not between the heal and the toe so the middle of the foot feels smashed. Jim green do not have that issue at all. Again for my foot they are perfect. It is like they used my foot to make the last for these.

Put in some decent insoles . They save money on the comfort area to be able to provide a very well-made upper . Mix in a decent pair of insoles, and they will fit better and be comfortable. They will last a long time. They just need some breaking in .I own 3 pairs of Jim green boots in different styles .These are hardy work boots in any case. The leather is stiif , once the boot breaks in and you have inserted a new insole , the heel slip will disappear.

Thanks! I’m really considering giving Jim Greens another shot. I hear great things about them all the time. I may just need to find the right insoles.

Now I'm kind of hesitant. I really want these boots but i have narrow feet. I'm a 12 in sneakers and always get an 11.5 in boots. I have a pair of Thursday Dukes in honey suede and love them but i wanted these for a more rugged, Idaho winter chelsea. Any thoughts?

@@StrayReviews thanks. I’ve been looking into these very same boots for work as my third pair of JG. my EE foot fits comfortably in razorbacks but I have the luxury of laces to adjust the fit.
