Minter is still a young man and if he's looking toward a future head coaching position, he might want to look at Staley, the Rams defensive Guru, as an example of taking on a head coaching position before his time is ready. Stay with Harbough for a few years , get a superbowl ring, then take on the head coaching position.

All good coordinators don’t always make good head coaches right away. It might be a good idea for him to stick around another year or two and develop his game. Look at Brandon Staley. He might be scarred from ever getting a head coaching job again and chances are when coaches get fired. The team is probably going to be sorry.

That's the double edged sword having a coach like Harbaugh. He elevates every coach under him, but he still isnt a true offensive/defensive coordinator or playcaller. So its expected for him to have a lot of turnover with coordinators under him, and they take their system with them. Hopefully Minter has some loyalty to Harbaugh, at least for another year or a few. Hes only 40, and Harbaugh is already 60. He has a whole career ahead of him, and the Harbaugh coaching window isnt going to be all that long. This is only his 3rd season as a defensive coordinator altogether, and his first season in the NFL. He's in the best possible scenario outside of a head coaching gig you can ever possibly ask for. Learning under the best, with what will be a super contending team under Harbaugh.

Just because you are a great defensive coordinator does not mean it translates in to being a great HC. Look at Steve Spagnuolo. He needs to sit for a awhile and learn under Harbaugh

Minter needs a year or two at the coordinator position. He will be a great HC, but needs more experience. Needs to see how an NFL team works, planning, game adjustments, etc. He was a position coach before Michigan. Harbaugh doesn’t call for either offense or defense. Trying to call plays and be a HC at the NFL level is very difficult and fails more often than not.

Yeah, it hardly seems fair, but they have one of the best DCs in history, who is on one of the best teams in history, who has a HC who is one of the best in history, and works for an owner who is one of the best in history. I can see why he wouldn't leave. Respect to Jim Harbaugh though for wanting the best for his coordinators, even if it means losing them. Perhaps the Charger's owner could sweeten the pot for Minter, and Harbaugh could even elevate Minter to Assistant Head Coach. Roman doesn't deserve that title because he historically holds back offenses. He's got one of the most talented QBs in the league and won't cut him loose. Justin is playing some of the best he has ever played. They are also wasting Ladd McConkey's talents. That's what ticks me off,

If he thinks his value is high right now, wait until he takes them to the Show. Stick around, build something. Bosa and Mack both took pay cuts to stay and build something. His next team might not have the defense players the Chargers have. Staley had one of the greatest defensive players of all time on the Rams, and look what happened.
@texmcboog11 күн бұрын
Also… Why are we focused on how good the opposing offenses are only. The Bengals struggle to stop anyone. The Bolts will shorten these games coming up limiting possessions. That is as important as stopping them. If the Bengals can’t stop the 10 play, 8 minute drives, they will bet impatient, push and Minter’s D will get some picks. Stay with the formula, it is two sided. Chargers 27-23

Contrary to popular belief, every great coordinator does not have to become a head coach or desire to be. Monte kiffin, Jim Johnson for example.. both had opportunities to become head coaches, declined and ended up extremely high paid assistant coaches for Tampa bay and Philly. How many times we see hot shot young coordinators leave to be head coaches and look overwhelmed and put together iffy coaching staffs and fall in their face? For every Sean mccvay there are 30 Brandon Staleys. Minter should take his time building more relationships across the league to ensure when he is ready to be a head coach he can hit the ground running and not be scraping for assistants and yada yada. I mean at this point if it’s about the money and I’m the chargers I’m paying him whatever he wants to stay idc
