This cover slips into the first place, sweet spot for the most all natural, sugar cane goodness version of Candyman I've had the pleasure of sipping up with my ears.

Very faithful cover of one of the Dead's most overlooked songs. Doesn't really break any new ground but I'm glad somebody decided to include this tune.

Only Jim can channel someone so gracefully, his cadence is so Jerry-like. Still infused with my favorite elements of a Jim cover... brilliant tribute.

Duuuuuuuude......Hi Jerry's Ghost Voice. Look out look out. Twang twang twang pppph pppph. All perfect. Sick jam. Thank you Jerry's Ghost Voice and Company. I have to hit the back button and add this song to a comment list of awesome jams off this album. Way to JAM. Not purely straight line. Yet...Look out look out...

+B Hamilton This is a good cover of a favorite GD studio recording. MMJ's take on "It Makes No Difference" is a fantastic cover, one of if not my favorite on that tribute album.

Yep, sounds like Jim James covering the Grateful Dead. In my opinion most of these covers on this album sound better than the Dead And Co. thats coming from a guy that has 87 Dead shows (with Jerry) under his belt. Dead and Co.? I meant John Mayer and Co. The National does a great job on Morning Dew as well.

It's a good cover, I suppose, in a tribute sense. But isn't it a bit too much like the original? Don't get me wrong, I like this version as well as the original, but I think cover versions are much more interesting if they have more novelty. Perhaps it's just a very personal tribute to Jerry from Jim, though (and hence the "imitation"). Looking forward to the Day of the Dead LP! Most songs on it have been surprisingly good.

Yeah, I thought the same thing. It's a great sound but it sounds like the studio album, which was never the best of the GD. Still, this is a studio album, I guess...

BETTER than the G.D. version hands down. Much more melodically flowing with better guitar riffing too.

It is Hands Down Much better than the Deads version, Sorry Slick. If you don't think so you probably aren't a musician and just a listener.

The vocals are stellar, but the accompaniment is all too "straight". It sounds very 4/4, which is IMO a bit of a disservice to Jerry and the boys.
@Terrapin96148 жыл бұрын
+Kelly Cox to my ears it seems very similar to the way the song is played on the album, with a big country shuffle beat. Plus there's a nice swing to their shuffle. True, it sounds quite different from live versions. But most of The National's accompaniments have been true to the album versions (listen to their Terrapin, e.g.). I do love that heavy fuzz guitar solo

+Kelly Cox disservice? it's a band's rendition of a classic, not a carbon copy
@wiscgaloot8 жыл бұрын
Desert Lake Striper Yes, I understand, but if someone covered a Louis Armstrong song in straight 4/4 without any swing, it would be inferior, don't you think?
@KariSinkko8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, it's a bit squeaky clean, but my singing voice isn't as good so I think they've done a good job.
@sparkymahoney43438 жыл бұрын
It's good and faithful but a straight up cover when I think most people were looking for a reinterpretation like what The National did with Morning Dew.
@itsbenj8 жыл бұрын
I feel conflicted. I like a lot of these covers so far, but I'm also starkly impressed by how few of them are able to really stand next to the originals. this one in particular, is so lacking in swagger compared to the orig. it just doesn't quiiiiite swing enough. it's a loving tribute though.
