I think it was Chas Chandler who said, when he first saw Slade, before becoming their manager: "The singer - He's definitely got something. The drummer - He can drum. The guitarist - He can play and is watchable. The bassist - Ah, now there's the man who makes it all happen! " Or something along those lines. Jim was the bands main songwriter no matter what the writing credits are on the records, he dictated the bands musical direction, no denying Nods input or Dave or Don but Jim has all the musical ideas & brought them to the band. Has Nod written anything since Slade days? Jim has lots of completed recorded works so think that gives you the answer as to who did all the heavy lifting when it came to composition.

Slade were a very underrated band. Definitely one of the best bands . Jim is a great musician. If Jeff Lynne wanted to put together another Wilburys Jim Lea fits the bill perfectly. 👍👍👍

Oh heck yes. If we're going to play "Fantasy 21st Century Wilburys" I'd suggest Jim Lea Bruce Springsteen Annie Lennox Rod Stewart Jarvis Cocker Bryan Ferry Juliet Turner ...and because he's an all-round good egg and did a barnstorming job on that Christmas track with the OId '97s, Kevin Bacon. The fact that Jim Keltner should be included, and given equal billing for once, goes without saying. Anyone got their own suggestions for posterity?

Whoa, this is great! Slade was a little before my time but I caught up them in the 80s when I heard Run Runaway. They often came across as kinda goofy and I think sometimes people didn't take them seriously, but they're terrific musicians. Thanks for posting this! I didn't know Jim was still working.

Jim does very well from his writing with Slade the catalogue is still very successful. The other side is the term ‘change a word get a third’ so say Jim wrote a whole song for Ed Sheeran & Ed changes one word he gets a songwriters credit……this actually is the practice now it’s common
