Hey Guys, I really enjoyed your comments and reactions to our work! You really had it dialed in as far as spotting when we were on our game and when it came up short. Doing monthly team books like these were such a challenge and not everything was picture perfect, but I look back at it all with such fondness, and the memories of those brutal sleepless deadlines start to fade. LOL. By the way, those little bubble highlights that make everything look shiny you mentioned at the end were just Jim and I stealing some techniques from Barry Windsor Smith, mostly from the Weapon X stuff that was coming out at that time. We didn't stick with it for very lone because we eventually figured out it didn't make a lot sense for our stuff. Again, thanks for the kind words and glad you are still geeking on this stuff 30 years later!

I found this channel after his passing, and have watched and learned so much about comics from the 2 of you. And now they are more enjoyable when I read them. Thank you Jim & Ed!

The best comic book channel, and the best fanboy channel for the eighties and nineties comic fans. Bloody brilliant. Love your work, and THANK YOU!!!!!!!!❤❤❤

Jim Lee is the best. It's like a combination of John Buscema, Neal Adams, Jim Starlin, Arthur Adams and John Byrne art.

Owning this artists edition is dream come true. The 12 year old in me does cartwheels every time I crack open the book. It's very, very interesting watching Jim evolve over the course the book and slowly shake off his influences. From an artist's perspective there's tons to learn here.

Same here, X-Men #1 was my first comic and got me hooked. This is huge nostalgia for me and as an artist it's a huge study guide.

Jim Lee does an unboxing of this and talks about the art, I was shocked to find he was doing breakdowns on some of this with Portacio doing finishes, or one doing the figures and the other doing backgrounds - and vice versa as Jim did work on the X-Factor run. But looking at the art now you can definitely tell. Here is the link to the video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/ml7FdYyVprSjhdU

Also, how in the F was Jim (with the Homage crew) getting this colossal artwork out on monthly deadlines. Legendary work.

Lee is a cut above the rest. Also Lee And Williams are like Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre. Together they are magic. Williams taught me to appreciate what inkers do. Lee and Williams are a force of nature.

I think Lee, Portacio and Williams had 9 days to turn around Uncanny X-Men #267. Lee laid out the pages, Portacio pencilled and of course, Williams inked supreme.

His early X-Men work was amazing, not sure how they did it on a monthly basis.

I actually was never all that into Jim Lee art back then, but have come to respect his style as it mellowed later on in the New 52 DC era. That said, seeing this original art got me kind of excited about his X-Men era too now. Thanks!

yeah I'ma need to pick this one up. Like you said, this stuff is just ubiquitous with what i think of as "superhero comics", the epitome. But seeing them without color takes them to a whole different level for me. I could just look at it all day and get inspired. beautiful stuff.

This book is an absolute gem and mind blowing, I got mine a few weeks ago and I haven't been able to put it down. Seeing the blue lines and white out is the best part. If the work was clean and perfect I think it would have been crushing. I can clearly see that Jim and Scott have trouble with art too sometimes. Watching Jim's streams now it's easy to think that he is perfect and has never had trouble with it.

I'm glad I got this Artist's Edition, because these pages mean a lot to me, and they're amazing to study, but I have to say I would gladly have traded away all the X-men #3-11 pages for more pages of Uncanny X-men 271-275. #274 and 275 are really underrepresented in this collection. To my mind, they're the pinnacle of Jim Lee's Uncanny X-men run--those and the X-tinction Agenda issues. I miss pages like in 272, when Magistrate Pam is hitting Wolverine with that lightsaber nightstick, or the page in 275 when Rogue gets her powers back and flies through the fight with Zaladane. Honestly, all the pages of Zaladane mincing around are pretty gorgeous. The pages from X-men #2 on look much less polished. I think when Lee is plotting the book, his visual storytelling doesn't get as much consideration. After the Uncanny run the art just doesn't tell the story in the supercharged way he does in the Uncanny X-men books. But it's amazing to see all these pages at original size, and see how much detail goes into so many of them. Thanks for the video!

There's half a dozen books like this they could take my money for right off the top of my head! Art Adams, Neal Adams, Brian Bolland, Byrne Alpha Flight, Cosmic Odyssey... You could do a whole book of Gil Kane layouts, Mike Grell... and the list goes on and on. Do a second print of the Sienkiewicz book already! That Micronauts book was gone in a flash too. Get on your game IDW and take my money!

I remember being the world's saddest 11 year old when I realized they were never going to add Psylocke to the cartoon. And it was such a stupid issue. All they had to do was add some slightly different colored tights to her legs. That was it. Everyone (for the most part) is hot and in tights. It was such a fixable non issue. I hope the new add on by Disney+ fixes this 30 year wrong.

rad. Uncanny X-Men 268 is the reason I like Jim Lee. Great Comic Book. Please do something Ron Wagner (ie. G.I. Joe Nth Man: The Ultimate Ninja). Or Mark Silvestri (ie.Uncanny X-Men, Wolverine)...had these two greats confused for years.
