I am neither Irish nor a woman. But I just felt like replying to your comment. you know, I got to meet this wonderful song about 2 weeks ago. I have always liked Irish music but this one is so special that it became instantly my favorite song. so yeah, it just feels kind of good to know I'm not the only one who bursts into tears when hearing this I think. anyways, guess I should go and listen to less emotional stuff like whiskey in the Jar and Rocky road to Dublin lol

Thank you for your reaction to the late Jim McCann singing Grace. I appreciate you making the effort to learn about the tragedy of Joseph and Grace. Joseph was a young man, and a poet, who suffered ill health for much of his life and it would have been understandable if he had decided not to make his stand with his comrades in 1916, but he was a trrue patriot, and for that he would die. Grace was herself a very patriotic lady and she would also end up imprisoned at Kilmainham Gaol some years later for her beliefs. Her cell in Kilmainham Gaol, now a museum, has been preserved, though kept locked for fear that visitors might unintentionally damage the beautiful artwork that she painted on her cell's wall. Visitors may view her painting through a glass peep hole so that physical contact or their breath doesn't cause deterioration.

Yes but as always, you guys fail to mention "WHO IT WAS" that imprisoned Grace in 1923, which was the "Irish Free State" and the Irish national Army, why do you guys always fail to mention that fact??? Even Jim gets his facts wrong as Grace died in 1955 NOT 1969, as an Englishman how do I know this stuff when you Irish don't?

Although I can't hear the tune I followed the lyrics. I think given their rhyming I had a tune in my mind. I love these songs, sad as they are, they follow actual events. This also made me think of those many men who went to war, never to return. Long may these kinds of songs live on, they all give a story, history and hopefully a lesson. Ta Ashley 🧏. Stephanie. (I have a few songs my Grandparents used to sing to me when I was small, I know the tune and lyrics only for the fact they would place my hand on their throat (Grans) or chest (Grandads), my hands are my ears). Sadly, Grace did not resonate through the speaker, so I could feel/hear the music).

Its so sad that people tend to forgive or don't even know about Muriel's story which is just as sad if not more so than Grace's story and the events that would occur over the next 12 months or so that would make Grace's and the children's lives even more tragic.
