lp.constantcontactpages.com/s... 8 - INTERVIEW - Jim Messina Does He Have Regrets
Knowing what you know now what would you change? It's a question I ask every musician. It's a questions I ask everyone..not only musicians. Here we have a singer/songwriter, producer who was in three big outfits, Buffalo Springfield, Poco and Loggins and Messina - and a founding member of the latter two. He's done much. Interestingly in this clip he mentions the band Boones Farm. They were a country-blues rock band from the early 70's - Jim Messina produced them. Regrets? He's had a few.
Jim Messina is doing shows this year right up to November.
Go to Jim Messina.com for details. We'll have more of our conversation with Jim in one week. - by John Beaudin

Jim seems to be a class act outside of the tunes he has laid down over the years. He's got a great ear for melody and interviews like he's just a normal person. It's a worthwhile interview, consistent with Jim.

I was born in 53 so the music from the 60s and 70s or what I grew up on. Buffalo Springfield was in my mind is young kid just incredible. When you look at Jim Messina in those days he looked like a young much younger than his own years even at that time kid that you would think was the bass player off quietly in a corner somewhere but he wasn't he was the guy ramrodding the whole deal with writing directing and producing. Great songwriter musician and just all-around guy in the industry who is just a straightforward down-to-earth kind of guy. How can you not love that! I was lucky my mother did dance and my step daddy did rock and roll. From Tulsa Oklahoma via Pittsburgh Pennsylvania, Love, Peace and Happiness. Cause as Richie Furay would have said and it's a good feeling to know somebody loves you...

I have seen Logins and Messina perform together live, back when they toured last. They both were incredible guitarists, and great singers. Jim is a killer picker on his Fender Telecaster! Kenny is also great at rockin' out taking turns at playing lead with Jim. I highly recommend anyone to see them together, if they play live again.... I never have seen a pair of old friends that compliment each other that well on stage!

Jim Messina has been a favorite artist of mine since his turn in Buffalo Springfield...every career step he's made (in music) has elevated his stature among the greatest, in my opinion. But these interviews put him in a whole new light...one that shines very, very bright...great job to both the interviewer and the interviewee (is that a word :) ?

Thank you for this interview, exactly one year late seeing it. I saw L.M.on their first tour 10th row center. A totally, professional show. Jimmy was definitely in charge of the band . At the end when they did Vahevala (?sorry spelling) he told the audience to "quiet it down so they could get the intro right, then break hell"! Ha! Jim Messna is a total professional and seems like a great guy.

I've been listening to Jim since the late 60's. When he was doing the reunion tour with Kenny, he performed Kind Woman and said Richie this is for you. I'm like you Brother John. I like the stories. Have a great weekend. God bless.

I'm glad Dan Peek's name came up during this conversation, John. You've promised in the past to post your interview with Dan and some of us (me) are still waiting for it. Unless somehow I missed it. I'm gonna click the "comment" button and then go back in time to see if I simply missed that interview. If not, could you please...........

Hi John, Nice to catch you again and Mr. Messina. I am pleased that when he looks back he doesn't have many regrets. There are not too many people this level headed in the music industry. As far as the ego goes it is understandable.... I mean when Sting plays a show in South America with close to 100,000 people hard to keep the ego in check in those cases. I think no one is perfect and level headed at every single instance in their life. I know that I too would have done some things differently. I guess it is par for the course. Hard to imagine someone being completely content in all their decisions that they have taken. Thank you for these wonderful interviews. God bless Tino

Jim Messina is one of the guys who plays second fiddle to his partners. See Art Garfunkel, John Oates etc.His work in Poco was phenomenal. If he hadn’t left , maybe they would have been as big as the Eagles.

Maybe should have stuck with Kenny !! But his reputation is not sullied by Kenny's 80's sell out hits. My Dad. Don Ellis singed Loggins & Messina. He knew them from The Discount Record store in Berkley.

I thought Loggins change after the break up was pretty dramatic-his first couple of albums were not big sellers. He seemed to have lost his rock in the roll-oh nice music-comfortable - almost "elevator " like but I was expecting better. I guess I never recovered from L&M breakup. I dont know if he was a sell out- oh I imagine his concerts suddenly did when he went "Hollywood Pop" but again- you are in the business to also make $ . He just hit the right "niche" for him. I had wished Messina had hit it as well.

Great musician, but Messina's misty-eyed recollection of a historically corrupt music industry, surprises me. CBS and all those labels, ruled the music industry with an iron fist. Many artists and songwriters suffered because of this, and the industry's pure greed brought about its own destruction. Prince knew it, and talked about it openly. Messina? Not so much.

Too bad you don't recognize great musicianship when you hear it. You don't have to like what isn't to your taste, but it's just ignorant to walk around not being able to discern skill when you encounter it.
