Hard to believe all the violent, wild stories about our American Poet when you listen to these interviews. Jim is always intelligent, honest, and almost gentle in all of his interviews.

I met a guy called Ramon at Glastonbury festival in 1992 who told me he was the reincarnation of Jim Morrison. He was at least 35. I smiled, gave him back his joint and said "hey man you're too old". He put his hand on my shoulder, looked me straight in the eye and said, "you have to be in a constant state of revolution or you're dead". I asked him what he meant and he said "time is irrelevant". Then he picked up a mic and recited A Feast of Friends word for word. Death makes angels of us all and gives us wings where we had shoulders smooth as raven's claws.

You can watch an interview of Jim Morrison's dad here on youtube, it's taken from the documentary "When you're strange". His sis, Anne is on it too. You can tell that his father really tried to tear him down about his singing. However in his old age he seemed to mellow a bit and recognize that his talent was as a performer.

For the commenters that say Jim’s voice changes toward the end of the interview: that is because the tape speeds up slightly. Probably due to the age of the tape. To be properly preserved, the recording needs to be speed-corrected.

The speed up at the end of the recording might be because the little portable reel-to-reel tape recorder's batteries were running out, & the drive was getting slower. When it was played back at normal speed, the slowed-down part would have played back faster. I guess!

his father came from a different generation. He was able to recognize Jim's talent, but thought (correctly) he would have been better suited to a film/writing career and that the music industry would destroy him. Morrison could have been the greatest poet/writer/filmmaker of the late 20th century.. as it was..

Yes, something did happen. His father was an Admiral in the Navy, during a very unpopular war.( actually "in charge" @ the Gulf of Tolken incident). I am sure that his Father had high expectations for Jim to follow in his path. Jim couldn't, so there had to be some very tough issues between the two. Issues, that were never resolved. The sex thing, is hard for me to believe. Jim was a PR nightmare for his father, therefore, the wedge was driven. Just my un-informed opinion.

I have seen that! One of the most insightful interviews I've ever read. I don't personally believe Jim was violent but there are the stories about how he gave Robbie a black eye or literally strangled Ray Manzarek almost to death during a limo ride, etc. I think the whole Jimbo persona is a bit overblown anyways. We all have different sides and facets to our character, famous artists are no exception.

Well, that truly is something to ponder.Jim's father was the Flag Officer for all Navy ships in the Gulf, therefore, he would've known the plans of the US government, to exploit the so-called attack on the USS Turner Joy, in the Gulf of Tonkin. Jim was actually embarrassed with his father. Going so far as to claim that his parents were dead. The only role that I think Jim played, was that of the Prodigal Son. Except that, he never returned....

RojotheRed I had read somewhere that a junior Naval officer found the Doors first album and brought it to his father (Admiral Morrison) who then played it and called or wrote Jim saying he was making a bad career choice and essentially needed to “get a real job.” This hurt Jim pretty deeply The Admiral later regretted this and said so, but only after Jim passed away.
