I agree but it does not apply to all industries. I use to work in the security industry and completed over a 1,000 of training, EMT, and even a black belt and made no more then those who had to buy their permits because their to stupid to pass the requirement. I contribute this to sub standard management which is the norm, not the exception.

+esiagent1 you didin't sell yourself properly. You have value, now you have to communicate that, and sell it to whoever wants to hire you. If you can't show and sell that value, then people will 1. Probably not see the value and 2. Even if they see the value, pay you as low as they can get away with if you can't sell yourself!
