shadowheart52 He was unbelievable. Stealing over 100 bases on one season is stealing second then 3rd! The guy stole 31 bases when 41 years old and 25 when 42 years old. Workout freak!

Arguably the most dangerous lead off hitter of all time? Who is going to argue with that? Rickey is arguably the greatest baseball player that ever lived, he's hands down and without question the greatest lead off hitter of all time.

Rickey Henderson was arguably the greatest leadoff hitter ever. He could hit a home run or score a run by a single, two stolen bases and a sacrifice. The game has changed so much though they don’t mention him as an all-time great.

I,ve known rickey since he was in high school. The season was only 10 games yet he stole "30" fuc---- bases and batted around 670.He had numerous scholarships offers for football where he played running back.He could have been Bo Jackson before there was a Bo Jackson.P.S It's not bragging if you can back it up!

Lou Brock told him to say that actually. Rickey had planned something else and Brock told him, you've idolized Ali all your life, this is going to be your day Rickey, tell them you're the greatest. (Paraphrasing there, but the important part is that it was Brock's idea). also of note, the Olerud story isn't real, that one is urban legend.

well played rome as always your overall predictions and in general, commentary of things was again... spot on. i guess a radio show wouldn't be as interesting if you actually you know... done some research and realized that he shut himself away for a month before the ceremony and probably read the most static, impersonal speech because for whatever the case may be (dyslexia, fear of public speaking, or fear of public speaking your grammar just sucks) he respected it enough

It is probably one of the few times, that I am willing to miss a Yankee game. If his speech when he passed Lou Brock, to become the all time career stolen bases leader was great, this will be even better. It will likely be the funniest speech since Phil Rizzuto's in 1994. Rickey deserves to be there. Even Rickey thought it was a long time coming. Congrats, Rickey. The Man of Steal.

Jim Rome is a TOOL. Behind the stern voice and macho goat, he's a wimp. He speaks his mind and sometimes exaggerates them to get attention. Nobody can forget how stupid he was for doing the Jim Everett interview. Mocking an NFL QB?! LOL, THAT'S SMART. 84slaughter Please. Rose had longevity. Compare his numbers to guys like Pujols and he falls woefully short or a guy like Hornsby who averaged over .400 for 5 seasons. Rose was good yes, but I would put 50 players ahead of him.

Rickey was the best lead off hitter ever it's not debatable or arguable...Jim.Rome may be the least talented guy to ever make it on TV or radio but I also share a love for Rickey. I absolutely was obsessed as a 6- 10 yrs old kid with Rickey. He was a specimen of a man with the tight pants high socks and huge thighs hr was the coolest thing to ever wear a baseball uniform....everyone had those high stirrups back in the 80s and early 90s ..I miss that look but Noone could, including me who always had the high stirrup look as a kid but lacked the leg.size had the speed but didn't look like Rickey, Noone did back then or now... not even bo Jackson had better legs than Rickey and his ability to slide.head first into every base every time stealing 100 a year and slid into home headfirst and won those battles..prolly Cuz he was built.like a brick shthouse...he lasted forever guys today steal.60 bases and they get hurt 4 times next season.. the excitement of guys like Rickey and Vince Coleman brought to the game was unmatched to me by any Era including the juiced up late 90's....would love to see another Rickey or Vince but I doubt it will.happen for a while if ever..love you Mr Henderson you truly are the greatest of all.time.....

@tatomuck18 This is one of the worst cases of hatorade I've seen in a long time. Let's just talk about the "all he can do is steal." Even if that were true (career .279 is not bad at ALL) not ONLY was he the best at stealing bases...he cleared the previous mark by 50%. You might as well say Frank Thomas was overrated because all he could do was hit. His defense was pretty rough...yet he still wins 2 AL MVPs. I just saw you typed this a year ago. I hope you've learned since then.

to know that was the best he could do on that platform. your little catch phrase "have a take, don't suck." should apply to you as well man. you can't just spew anything out of your "grill" and expect it to be good... speaking of which i really hope that someone pushin... 50 doesn't really talk like that off the mike."grill", and your clever use of "trees, cabbage, or the happy lettuce" in reference to the generally accepted "weed", is kinda douchey. thanks for the vine jim.

Rickey Henderson is OVERRATED!! No way is he the best leadoff hitter or best any hitter. With a mediocre 275 batting average and taking well over 20 years just to barely reach 3000 hits isnt that great. There are tons of guys like Cobb and Wiliams and Bonds and many more with much higher batting averages, on base percentages and better overall numbers. All he could do is steal bases. You might as well get Usain Bolt on a team.
