I agree as well. Jim Rome was a sports shock jock trying to make a name for himself. If he had thanked Everett for coming on his show, and said "I respect you for coming on my show, and I'm done wirh the snarky comments", he would have looked like a man. Everett likely would have buried the hatchet. Instead Rome looked like the mouthy schoolboy that opened his mouth once too often. It's a disgusting way to gain notoriety in my book.

I’m a house painter and I listen to sports radio all day long. When Jim Rome comes on I change the channel. I can’t stand the guy!!!! His inflated ego is out of the stratosphere!! He reminds me of a cocky high school punk who never made it in athletics but hung out with the real athletes because it made him feel cool. He’s sooooo into himself.

Between Rome, Mike Francessa, Skip Bayliss and Craig Carton, when have ANY of these guys played a second of any pro sport they cover to put then in them in the position of being so-called experts? I went to fim school, have worked in the film industry for years but I have no credibility to be in a position to criticize the work of Scorsese, Spielberg, Kubrick or any other genius.

Jim Everett is 6'4'' and 230'ish lbs. He may have been a QB and smaller compared to NFL Linemen....But he was a NFL level athlete and had the kind of size that would make just about anybody 2nd guess taking him on out on the street.

I remember this like it was yesterday, and it was pretty shocking at the time, this was the early internet/cable days and shock radio had not really hit sports yet. This was way before shows like First Take and Undisputed, Jim Rome was somewhat of a trailblazer in that regard. Jim Rome was not well-known at the time, and it's obvious he pulled this stunt to get his name out there.

i hadnt heard of either of these gentlemen before this and i doubt seriously i ever will again.. but my big wonder was always: what does chris evert think of this? when i was a kid she was the best and toughest tennis player in the world.. she beat all comers on any surface for years.. im the first to admit i dont respond well to ultimatums, why would mr rome? as for mr everetts reaction, not only is it illegal (under any circumstances) but its also stupid.. lets make our little jokes and have our fun with this (15 or so years later) but i see this is just another bully beating up on someone who is no match for him.. i expect more from a guy who has an MBA
