Jim Cornette is a once-in-a-lifetime wrestling personality. You either love him or hate him, but you have to respect his accomplishments and contributions to the business. Corny's not for everybody, he likes what he likes, but at least he's going to explain in extraordinary detail why he hates something or why it's good and makes sense. Corny's unfiltered, in-your-face, colorful, and uncensored most of the time, and I've been a fan of his since the early 80's. Love listening to his show on a daily basis.

In an interview Cornette did he said the reason he freaked out in Halifax was because he was wanting an explanation as to why they were burying their new babyface The Patriot ( Del Wilkes), and all Dunn wanted to talk about was the Sable T-Shirt. So, BANG, ZOOM, SHIT.

The way Corny tells of the “ Screw Job”, it wasn’t that he masterminded it. After pitching every idea they had at both guys, and both guys rejecting every idea, out of frustration, annoyance , and exhaustion, he ( in a very offhand way) just put out there “ just do a double cross”. I don’t think he ever meant for the idea to be taken seriously, and he didn’t like the idea. The man himself said he left the arena as soon as he found what was going on.

Everything ive seen and read about Cornette. He as had issues with a "Corporate Structure", he either cannt or wont play nice with other people. It seems whether it was NWA/WCW, WWF, OVW, TNA. He has to realize sometimes, there are people that are smarter and more creative than you. Basic Philosophy in life. You would think at his age he would have figured it out by now.
@KClouisville
@KClouisville 2 ай бұрын
There may be plenty of people smarter and more creative than you, me or Cornette. I think the issue is the more "corporate" a place is, the less likely you're going to encounter a ton of those people. I worked at companies before where I wondered how the CEO's or COO's were able to tie their shoes in the morning before they left the house. I think Cornette's big issue is he steadfastly believes the old territory model is the best way to run a wrestling company. In most of those situations there were not a ton of middle-men to muddy the waters in creative and one person was basically directing the ship. Even the "booking committee" he was on in WCW was a compromise I don't think he, or JR for that matter, works well in the long run.

Your right. Thou I'd say 1986 instead of 85'. & as a fellow dinosaur, i'd be lying if I said I did'nt really miss those day too (more diversity in the product & how it was presented to fans, more options as far as the different promotions around the country)..It's true what they say..."The world belongs to the youth". lol

One of the things that makes me really not like Jim Cornette is that when anything goes wrong, he has a million excuses for why it's everyone's fault but his. It just seems like wherever he shows up, not long after the company isn't doing too well. He showed up in WWF in 1993, just in time for the New Age, and not long after leaving, the attitude era starts. He shows up in ROH, a year later, all of ROH's talent is gone and the product is in the dumpster. Everywhere he goes, disaster follows, with a trail of excuses along the way. And you know, maybe it's not all his fault, but he does seem to just bring the worst out of people. I can't imagine working with Jim Cornette would be the healthiest work environment for anyone.

sounded like Cornette left WWF because he hated living in Connecticut even more than his problems with Russo. His Russo hate built up over time.

That's quite unfair. WWF was already on the slide by 1993. Also he didn't leave when the attitude era started. He was there untill 1999 in one capacity or another at which point the attitude era was over a year old. He then ran OVW. Which produced lots of people who would end up on the roster and become big stars. ROH he was not the booker. Delerious was the booker Jim he was pretty much the producer. For some reason ROH fans kept assuming he was writing the show when he wasn't. And when he was taken off camera as the authority figure. Suddenly the fans thought ROH was great again even though the creative team was exactly the same. Not that he is perfect. He is really too high strung to be in a leadership position. Most of us when we work for a company put up with things we don't like, he can't do that. But I think a lot of the criticism people throw his way is really unfair.

He was only a manager in '93, a great heel manager at that. He was actually in the office for most of the attitude era, on creative during one of their boom periods, not exactly a shit resume. He played a big part in the training of john cena, randy orton, brock lesnar and batista in ovw. His roh wasnt bad either.

Ironic isn't it? He blames Russo for 'destroying companies' and not getting anybody over (archbishop of talentbury), when in fact all of that can be attributed to Cornette. First there was SMW, then look at the WWF midcard and tag team division in 1995-1997, then look at it when Russo replaced him in creative. Night and day. Cornette was also completely against the creative direction in TNA when the viewership was increasing each year, and ultimately surpassed 2 million viewers in 2010-2011. It's like the guy is allergic to ratings.

@@LordJuzzie And thats another thing I love. He thinks he SO smart about wrestling because OVW did well. Like of course that was gonna do well, it had the WWF machine behind it, scouting out some of the best talent of a generation. It wasn't Jim Cornette "discovering" this great talent, it was JR, Bruce Prichard and Gerald Briscoe with WWF/E's budget going around the country scouting these guys out of college. When you have some of the greatest prospects of a generation handed to you to work with, OF COURSE you're gonna do well. Especially considering he was working in the south, where it's REALLY EASY to get a pop, he could have got a pop with a couple of fat guys punching each other for half an hour, let alone with John Cena and Brock Lesnar. Delirious was basically just signing off on Jim Cornettes stuff, and was his assistant by the time of the Sinclair deal. But even before that, you could obviously see Cornette's influence on the stories of that time period, the silly, confusing "pick 6" concept, trying to get Colt Cabana to be more serious, and the magical way that like a year later half the roster was off working for WWE. He basically turned ROH into OVW2. But of course, ROH's sudden downturn wasn't his fault, it's never Jim Cornette's fault if you ask him. He was in charge, the buck stopped with him, and yet somehow nothing was his fault. I'm sure if a good idea had come out of that time period, he would have taken credit for it though.

Cornette was a horrible writer. Ratings showed, buy rates showed and that is why Vince McMahon picked Vince Russo over Cornette. Cornette was a good manager, but he was horrible at mostly everything else he tried. He also has the same politcal, religion and history knowledge as a 5th grader atheist.

I don’t think that just because someone has different beliefs that you, that it makes them some kind of person with a elementary school education. If you’re that tied to your beliefs that it colors the way you see people, then that’s on you. There’s more to life than politics and religion.

Cornette has made more money in the wrestling business than the majority of us ever will and still is like him or not and he was one of the best heel managers ever people came to the matches wanting to beat him up
