This woke culture constantly gets characterized as "left", but it's really not, Lenin opposed Identity politics, Marx and Engels saw no value in it and declared it as a bourgeois concept - which it is - , only Liberals, both closeted and open are supporters of this mental ret*rdation. I don't hold it against Synthetic Man that he views clowns like Jim as Left considering he's american. As there are barely any real leftists in the US, it's almost inevitable to develop a warped view on leftism, but to not drag on for too long I'll just say that actual leftists in my country (including myself) are at best annoyed by these ret*rds, and at worst actively hate them for destroying the perception of the "Left" as a political term. Real Left Wingers care about the working class, the family and community, not whatever cause lgbtards, armchair "socialists" like Jim or Climate doomsayers would have us champion this week.

I am form Balkans where the pay and standard of life are lower then in the states. I was in the Qa sector (black box tester- basically we do anything besides having access to the code so devkits and gear that the end user generally has...). We had optional working weekends from time to time and also optional overtime. Even if the firm was small, we worked a lot on AAA games as well as indie titles (we did a lot of work for Ubi, even shared the same building, lots of work for paradox as well, we worked on Disco Elysium and a lot of others). When the optional overtime came, we would fight for the place on the list, especially since the overtime pays 150% of the pay and weekend go for 200%. I do not know about other firms but here when you work on a computer, you basically work for 50 minutes and then have a 10 minute mandatory break (You can of course work through it and take it later if you are talking to the devs about some problems or similar...). The pay was a bit shit but when it comes to the pay for overtime and working conditions, it was awesome to work there. People used to play competitions in what ever was installed at the time and on last day of the week, we would get piss drunk and could leave 2 hours earlier to start our weekend right. I am of course in a shitty part of Europe so i have to guess that these kinds of things and conditions are much better in America...

As a software developer, I must say crunch is a common practice on the industry... BUT, it's done because software must be FINISHED. Back in the time of this video, I was very supportive with CDPr because I know crunch is common and sometimes mandatory. But after playing Cyberpunk, I'm sure it was one of the worst and pointless crunch I've seen in a software company, so in my opinion, that crunch was a stupid measure when the true answer was delaying the game at least one year (or three, since it's 2022, they didn't fixed most of the true problems and the campaign is really meh). But to be honest: "just coding" isn't an easy task, you need a lot of concentration and it can be really stressful... I still mock Cyberpunk saying "this game was announced back when last-gen was next-gen, it's so next-gen that even current-gen isn't enough for it"... it's sad because it's obvious most of the development went to changing the story for including Keanu Reeves, and the next graphic technology: ray-tracing. CDPr was more focused into a beloved actor and a pointless technology for modern hardware. I've not tested it with my new 3080 Ti, but Control can't run at max settings with RTX and 2160p, so I guess the same applies to Cyberpunk, although it somehow worked smootly at 2160p in my gaming laptop (GTX 1070). About Sterling: I hated that guy since the first time I saw his profile back when Steam introduced "mentors", I've never seen his videos (mostly because I'm from México, so I watch only English videos I'm interested, some of this channel got into my recommendations and I'm giving it a try, good opinions, it's sad the author will never see this comment).

@YumiCakes2 жыл бұрын
People get stressed they have deadlines to meet, they have to work overtime. So it's like almost any other job? Makes you wonder how Jim thinks society functions if getting stuff done on time doesn't matter. I think the problem with actually taking a stand towards unethical practices is where do you draw the line? Why stop at buying video games because of overtime; why not stop buying electronics completely because the rare earth minerals to make them is mined in third world countries by slave labour, and then turned into components in china by even more slave labour. Why not stop eating meat because the factory farming conditions is horrible, why not stop eating greens too because of the ecological damages farming does. Why ever go anywhere because the damage you'll cause to the enviroment if you use any form of long-distance transportation. You might aswell just stop breathing because you remove oxygen from the air and exhale co2; and that's bad for the enviroment. And I get that it's whataboutism but I don't see why the problem is always on the individual consumer. Why is it up to me take a stand by not buying the game, instead of on the individual worker to just say no I won't work overtime. I'm not gonna pretend I don't understand the reasons why people would feel forced to comply, heck I don't agree with our corporate structured landscape to begin with. But I just find Jim's way of framing things ridicilious. Feels like him pointing fingers is more of a way for him to cope about his own guilt about buying games from said companies more than anything. Literally everything we have is the result of someone elses hard work and people's suffering, the least you can do is not take that stuff for granted. But strangely these are also the same kinda people that think the world owes them everything and they're entitled to anything without any form of contribution what so ever. Most people don't have the luxury to work at their dream job, or have the salary and time to do everything they could ever want. But if that's what it takes to keep our living standards the way they are, maybe it's worth it? Everyone seems to go around thinking the world is shit when it could be so so much worse. Obviously there's plenty of problems and I'm not saying we shouldn't work to improve things, but morally grandstanding on every little issue isn't gonna do anything. The only person you have agency over and you could realistically change the outcomes of is yourself, not the rest of the world. Thanks for listening to my ted-talk. TLDR; I buy my games without having to feel bad for the person making them. /rant

Dude only defends the game industry workers but it happens everywhere sometimes people are forced to work overtime and I'm sure it's not the crazy amount he makes it out to be maybe at the end of a games production to meet the release it's like that. Also, I don't know how it is in other countries, but here in México they pay you extra hours and if you work in your free day, it's paid double, most people do it because our economy is f**ked by a dumb lefty government (and previous center and right ones), but crunch is something very common. I played 2077 and to be honest I enjoyed it. I played on a series X and had a somewhat stable experience. Less so then I normally get on a console. But I enjoyed the story. I did find the game to lose balance later on and you get brokenly OP. But I had fun. I was disappointed by the fact that they portrayed the game as a story-branching experience but was pretty linear. I understand the pure brokeness being a problem for people. But the amount of people I've seen talk about 2077 and not seem to understand or even have experienced the game is a lot.
@JohnSmith-ox3gy2 жыл бұрын
Great that you enjoyed the story! Nothing ground breaking even for video games. If the whole story was at the level of the intro I could agree with you on the story. Vee was a potato sack of a character and Johnny was a huge pain in the ass compared to his tabletop origins. The content was repetitive and for every mildly interesting missions there were ten copy paste encounters, but had okay crafting and variety of skills to use. At this day and age it would be considered a "good game" if it wasn't an unfinished mess at launch.

Concerning world views: I respect each and any of them. The only requirement from me is that people stick to rules of their world views. And here is the bummer: Not one communist I came across who lived up to his own worldview. Not one... They have the lowest rating among all worldviews! And that’s really all I ask for. Live up to the standards you proclaim. Don’t preach communism while jacking up rent prices on a tiny crappy apartment you own. Or preach communism while earning 15000 dollar on Patreon while not financially supporting one real and efficient social cause. The list could go on. But it’s too boring to continue. I wish these people the privilege to live under real communism. And you can’t fault me for that. They did it to themselves. I judge people according to their own rules. Not mine... and that’s the most condemning to them.

I worked as a game tester for 10 years. Jim cries about the "crunch" developers have to do, but I've actually lived it. Testers have to do crunch long before developers do, and often BECAUSE of the developers (They were late with a build or fucked something up). Not to mention the "crunch" developers do is often catered. Studio will buy them all pizza. I've even seen professional caterers come in while testers, who are paid a lot less, have to provide for themselves. The "Crunch" developers complain about is also usually their own fault by being late with or screwing up deliverables, or going home early when staying a couple hours could save them from crunch later.
