I like the Hatsan Piledriver and have been looking at it for a while now. I have the Hatsan Bullboss in .25 and a Hatsan Sniper 125 in .25. I worry about the carry weight with my 70 yrs of age and lack of right arm below the elbow. I am also looking at the Air Force big bore in .45 for a lighter alternative. I really like these videos they get my heart racing, so I use them for my daily cardio workout.

My 30 cal Hatsan Hercules bully using a poly mag drops deer @ 50 yrds just as easy. Have dropped a deer with my 25 cal bully (by mistake) I grabbed the wrong gun and it had the Hunters supply slug (HP) Hit it at about 40 yrds and it staggered about 15-20 yrds and dropped. I wanna try my crown 25 cal using a H&N Hornet pellet. ( I will make sure if I do that I have a backup shooter so it doesn't suffer or run off when hit)

I agree. The only problem is that (in N.A.) there are only two states where they can be hunted with an airgun, Texas and Arizona. in Texas the gun has to be at least a .30 and generate over 215 fpe. I hope that changes because I think there are a lot of .25 and .30 caliber guns in the 100 fpe I'd like to use.

You, and two more gentlemen, Randy M and Eric H, used to hunt with Dennis Q’s 50 cal Bandit years ago. That was a 250 fp gun. I used to follow your hunts and reviews on the forums and your sites like a hawk; that’s how I know. Anyway ... Does the extra power on this help in any way? Increases your odds of success?
@americanairgunhunter
@americanairgunhunter 3 жыл бұрын
Hello Raj, thanks for the long time support! Yeah, Randy, Eric and I all hunted the DAQ's a lot. I still have two guns Dennis built for me that will stay in my collection, and are still amongst my favorites. The higher powered guns let you reach out a bit further, and will break down the bone on a shoulder shot better. But for me the power output is not as important as accuracy, shoot-ability, and portability after a certain point. For deer and hogs, I am completely happy with a 250 fpe gun. If going after elk and bear, or larger African game such as kudu or wildebeest, more power is better so long as the accuracy and shootability are there.

Can you speak to the general specs of your rifle? I currently own a Hatsan Flashpup QE Synthetic in .22 that I absolutely love and I'm searching for a relatively compact, TX compliant, air rifle for whitetail hunting at my little ranch in north central Texas. What are your likes/dislikes about this rifle? Would you recommend anything else instead? There are a few 30 cal+ rifles that catch my eye and draw my interest, but none seem meet the TX FPE and pellet/slug grain requirements. And all the big bore deer killers like the Piledriver just look so long and bulky to me. Is that just a false perception? Any suggestions?
@americanairgunhunter
@americanairgunhunter 2 жыл бұрын
Even though Texas will let you get by with a .30 generating over 215 fpe, I like a bit more power if possible. The Piledriver .457 is doing around 600 fpe and the .50 is over 700, which is about the same as the Texan and Hammer. I've really enjoyed shooting the Piledriver on a few hunts now, for deer, hog, and javalina. It is a big and heavy rifle, but I've hiked miles with it, and with a good sling or in my packs rifle carrier it hasn't been too bad. The gun also balances very well, and the sidelever action and the trigger are smooth and easy to work with. If you want something lighter the Texan rifle is a good option, and if you want it compact the carbine of the .357, .457, or .50 might be the ticket. I like the Texans a lot however found them the least ergonomic of the three I mentioned.... unless you add an aftermarket Bulldog stock. I haven't shot the Hammer since the initial prototypes, and it was very effective in anchoring a fallow buck but can't comment firsthand on the production gun. Many of the .30s that I love for predator and smaller game, aren't a good option for deer sized game. Besides not being legal in Texas, they are built to operate in the 75-130 fpe, range, which is best for coyote sized game. Be interested to hear what you end up getting, and how it works for you.

Yes and no. The .50 will generate about 100 fpe more...... but really, for most North American game who cares? In a recent discussion with Hatsan, I told them I'd give up 100 fpe off my .457 to shorten the barrel and make the gun more compact.

Can you comment on a comparison of this airgun vs the Hatsan Harpoon and/or the Benjamin Pioneer Airbow as far as effectiveness for deer at 100 yards or less.
@americanairgunhunter
@americanairgunhunter 3 жыл бұрын
Its kind of an apples and oranges comparison, in that the heavy lead slugs shot with the Pile Driver have much better accuracy and are more powerful at greater distances. My experience with any of the arrow platforms is they perform great at 50 yards, but as the range is extended they go wonky. I personally have not shot any arrow platform that is consistently accurate past 65 yards. As far as the arrow guns, my preference is the Harpoon as it is more powerful and more accurate (in my experience).

I don't think there would be a problem with an air bolt taking a deer from 100 yards.. I actually think we'd have more people doing it if the price wasn't so daunting on the air Bolts. I know this cuz it's What stopped me for years from buying them iIl wait till the price is reasonable

That is prototype testing, not a production gun. When it is in production and is proven, then it will be. However, I either need to see it myself or see an evaluation from someone I trust. There are things I see in this video that don’t make sense to me. The first target was stated to be shot at 100 yards (though they corrected this in the audio and said 50yds) and the second was 200. But both the shooting bench and the target are in the same location for both shots. Next they said they could only show two shots because they didn’t have more bullets? Sounds strange to me. I would like to see the chronograph results as well. This is just supposition on my part, but there is enough suspect information that I want to see results from a production run gun by somebody known in the industry.
