I'm really enjoying the overall sound and design of Taemins music. Over the last couple of months, I have been trying to understand what dance can mean. So far Taemin is one of my favorites.

This mv is iconic for the Taemin's androgynous visual, his girl gang behind him, and the choreography. The choreography is famous with other idols and kpop fans. He performed it live at Seoul Fashion Week and his performance went viral. Taemin explained, "I wanted to break the idea of what male performers are supposed to show, what performances girl groups are supposed to show. I really wanted to break those labels, showing that dance is a form of art."

Taemin has no fear when it comes to his concepts and performing. He used his song/MV to address something that he disagreed with in Kpop. It smashed the Korean society cultural norms regarding stereotypical gender segregation with dancers. You used to see just girls dancing with girls and vice-versa with the boys. Taemin on said that dance was a verb; not a gender and he proved it with "Move". This created quite a sensation within the Kpop world with everyone, and I mean EVERYONE in the industry covering this song. We're talking not just idols, but variety show hosts, comedians, etc...It was released in 2017 and people are STILL covering it to this day. Ironically, it never won any music show awards, but Taemin did win the 2017 MAMA award for best dancer for this choreo. The dance practice shows just how fluid and seamlessly Taemin moves...pun intended. Other dancers on YT say this is a very difficult dance because of how much muscle control is involved in keeping the movements very slow and fluid. Another fun fact, according to the producer/director of this MV, Taemin danced 18 hours in the rain to shoot this video and stated that he didn't think any other idol could have done this.

Yeah, wouldn't be surprised if Taemin was a liquid terminator. I think most fans are convinced he's probably not human in some way, shape or form. (He doesn't sweat from his face while dancing? Still smells like a baby according to his wardrobe/makeup team? Eats an obscene amount of fatty meat but Doctor tells him he should raise his cholesterol? Accidentally mentions eating people... I mean, what goes on?)

Don't overlook Taemin's group Shinee and the other members. Shinee Don't Call Me and Shinee Key's Bad Love are completely different from Taemin's solo work but great nonetheless.

Exactly, Move is a slow tease, cause the music reflects perfectly what’s going on in the lyrics - the whole song is about a subtle game of seduction with the person that fascinates you. In the second verse, when all the women’s faces are blurred the line that he sings is: I erase everything for a moment, rely only on my vision and admire only you. In it’s simplicity Move is one of the most addictive songs I’ve ever come across. It’s a timeless bob - it still remains fresh even after four years. Taemin’s music in general ages exceptionally well. Thanks for another reaction!

So cool that you can analyze so deeply! As fans and critics have said, Taemin is art. His mvs are always infused with symbolism and his philosophies. MOVE was a reset for the industry in which he asserts that dance is genderless and he embraces his androgyny. (I'm into scifi and my friends thought this was a zombie-like concept. I'll have to check Taemin's lecture/bts but I think his focus is on the genderless aspect here.) Move created quite a sensation and is covered by other idols and celebrities. To get the full experience, I think you need to see the live stages of Move with his "girl gang." Thank you for sharing your insights! I see you're on Taemin adventure which is cool. His critiques of the industry, media, and celebrity surprised me at first (especially Pretty Boy, Famous) but I love it. We have to remember he was discovered as a dancer at age 11, debuted with his SHINee hyungs at 14, and he loves his work. His debut of Danger and Ace are cool as he moved away from his image as the cute maknae (youngest) of SHINee into a solo career at age 21, the first SM artist in a group to do so, paving way for others. Some performances of note: Black Rose, Heaven, Just Me and You, Drip Drop, Press Your Number, Under My Skin, 2Kids, and basically anything with his name on it. Some of my faves in SHINee: Replay (their debut), View, Prism, Odd Eye, Evil, Your Number (mv), Picasso, Excuse Me Miss, and so much more in their 14 year career. Live is the best for SHINee and the individual members as soloists, Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho (whose main focus is acting but has two solo singles), and Taemin.

it's very important to read lyrics for Taemin's songs (not only for the music videos!!!) there's always a storytelling in the music reflecting the lyrics, for example his b-side track "Strangers", if you read the lyrics along while listening to the song you feel like you're in that moment there with him like in a movie or something you start to visualize it, because they used certain sounds mentioned in the lyrics, it's such a weird experience 😄

The look and feel for "Move" is very specific, it's supposed to be androgynous and gender neutral. Early in his career when Taemin was growing up in SHINee he was known for his feminine look. The industry thought it was novel and cute to dress Taemin up as a girl and play up his feminine features. Which ended up giving him a real complex about the fact that people never saw him as a masculine man. It took him a long time to accept that he was known for his looks and to come to terms with the fact that everyone thought of him as a "pretty boy," etc. So, at this point in his career as a 24 year old (He is 28 now) he was trying to make a statement about how he has now come to terms with just being himself and not caring what people think. Dancing is art and movement has no gender. Taemin is one of the most popular solo artists, as well as a member of the legendary Kpop group SHINee. He debuted as a solo artist in 2014. "Move" is his title track on his 2nd Korean solo album which was released in 2017. Fun fact: The blue color you see throughout this MV is supposed to represent the cool, chill vibe of this song, but pearl aqua also is SHINee's fan color, so you will see aqua/blue/green shades with most everything to do with SHINee as a way to represent their connection as a group and their connection to their fans, etc. "Move" features all female dancers because the whole point of the song and dance is supposed to be about crossing gender boundaries and how just because you are male doesn't mean your dance has to be hyper masculine. Taemin uses what is traditionally considered more feminine dance moves to show how you can merge both feminine and masculine styles together to create something that can't be singled out as one gender or the other. This dance allowed a more mainstream audience to start to embrace less traditional gender roles within Kpop. "Move" is one of Taemin's most famous choreographies and it has become the dance he is most recognized for.This dance has inspired what is known as the "Move disease," and it is said that the dance is so catchy that you can't help but try to imitate it. There are literally hundreds of videos online of people attempting cover dances to this song. (It is on the level of Beyonce's "Single Ladies" dance and some of the most famous TiK Tok dance challenges.) But no matter how good of a dancer they are, it is quickly apparent that there is just something about the way Taemin moves that can't be duplicated. Taemin is Taemin and there is no one else like him. The dance is never as sharp or precise as the way Taemin does it. That is why he is hands down considered one of the top two BEST dancers in the industry. As Taemin has said numerous times in interviews and on variety shows, the key point in "Move's" choreography is literally supposed to be to stare into the camera like you are trying to seduce the person who is watching. So, you are right, that is exactly what Taemin is doing. If you are impressed with Taemin's dancing in the MV, you really need to see his dance practice video and/or a live performance for "Move." You will be even more blown away when you see the uncut version. There is nothing better than Taemin live. The female dancer who is dancing with Taemin in the MV is a famous choreographer. She is the one that choreographed "Move". Her name is Sugawara Koharu and she is a Japanese choreographer who has choreographed dances for several Kpop groups, as well as American artists. She has worked with Taemin a lot over the years and she is the one that also choreographed Taemin's dance for his songs "Want," "Flame of Love" and "Sayonara Hitori" and helped choreograph Taemin and her performance on the competition program Hit the Stage -- "Devil" performance, etc., and she was one of 3 or 4 choreographers who helped choreograph Taemin's "Criminal." Taemin and Sugawara are really good friends. She was also the choreographer for SHINee's song "Good Evening," among others. She loves working with Taemin because they are a lot alike, and that is one of the reasons why she has been featured in several of Taemin's projects. Plus, Taemin and all the members of SHINee, are also one of the most famous artists in Japan and they all speak fluent Japanese, so they have no problem communicating through dance or language. :D Taemin has worked hard to become the magnificent and unique performer and person that we know him as today. But there really is no one that pushes him or holds him to a higher standard then himself. Taemin has said that he really has never taken a true vacation since he was a trainee -- he started with SM Entertainment when he was around 11 years old -- and he doesn't know what to do if he isn't constantly working and training. As he has said, there has never been anything that has come easy to him and he has only gotten to where he is today because he has worked hard to accomplish everything. He is constantly pushing himself to become the best of the best in everything he does. Taemin's choreography is very much influenced by him. Although he has input in almost everything he does, he has choreographers that come up with the choreography for most of his dances and he then infuses it with his own ideas and style and makes it uniquely his. The way Taemin dances is just the way he moves. His movements are effortless. If you watch Taemin dance more, you will see that no matter who choreographs the dance, it will always be very Taemin-like. Many choreographers who have worked with him over the years have said that, with Taemin you can't help but allow him to move in whatever way his body takes him. Taemin is art in every sense of the word. :D The funny thing is, although Taemin is ultra confident when on stage, when not performing his personality is the complete opposite. That's what makes him even more lovable and why he is so popular. When on stage, Taemin can turn his sexy, sensual side up to 3,000 and he becomes the most powerful and magnificent performer that commands the stage. But the minute he step off the stage he becomes quiet and shy and he blushes when people compliment him for his looks or performance. Taemin has had a solo career for 7 years and he has been a member of SHINee for more than 13 years. He has 11 solo albums and SHINee currently has 13 full length albums, plus dozens of mini albums, singles, repackaged albums, etc. So you won't run out of Taemin content to watch for a very long time. Taemin has even held several solo concerts, as well as more than 100 concerts as a member of SHINee. You really need to check out some of Taemin's and SHINee's live performance. If you think his MVs are great, just wait until you see him perform these same songs live in concert, you will be blown away. SHINee live is on a whole other level.

i think you ought to check the clips from a show he was on called the Call.... his song Pinocchio which he had to write with his chosen artist (BewhY). It was known as the 'collab of the century' in Kpop and was, simply put, awesome. You'd have to go from start to finish though to understand just what it meant, and how long they had to do it, but i think it'd be worth it. and btw.... you reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally need to check out SHINee (shiny) his band. His origin in kpop because they are insanely good! It'd also introduce you to him a little more, and theres even the SHINee guides to help you through XD

I think you might really enjoy Taemin's label-mates, NCT. The production is always top notch and they typically have a very experimental sound to their title tracks... sometimes, they've colored a little too far outside the lines for some people, so they've been called "noise music" and/or "controversial" on more than one occasion... personally, I love that they're always trying new things... even if that means I need to listen to a song a few times before my brain can relax and appreciate it. 😄 *NCT* is a 23 member group that is typically split into units... there are three fixed units, which are *NCT 127, NCT Dream* and *WayV* (Chinese unit)... and then there's *NCT U* which is a rotational unit that can have any number/combination of members from any of the fixed units on any given project. On the rare occasion they perform as a whole, then they're just NCT... but that's only been the case on three tracks, so not as overwhelming as it might seem. For you, I'd recommend; NCT U - The 7th Sense (group debut) NCT 127 - Superhuman NCT 127 - Sticker (but only if you want something VERY different/experimental) NCT Dream - Hot Sauce WayV - Turn Back time In case you weren't aware, Taemin is also a member of SM's all-star group SuperM, along with 4 members of NCT and 2 of EXO. You might enjoy their 'One (Monster x Infinity)' which is an interesting track as it's a hybrid of two songs. The way they combined them is fascinating, imo. Hope you give them a listen someday! 👍💚

there's often a big rift between k-pop and k-hiphop (hence why RM and Suga got so much shit from rappers for being kpop idols). However, Taemin did a collab with a very famous k-hiphop rapper named BewhY, they both said they hope it would bridge the gap between the 2 groups. Their song is called Pinocchio. Taemin and BewhY are so different from each other in terms of style and sound, so I was skeptical as to how well they would pair together. BewhY is like a hard rapper, he does not do any dance whatsoever, and almost never sings. Taemin is known for his sensual style of singing and dancing. But their song is really good, and when they performed it together, they pair surprisingly well. Of course, Bewhy sort of tones down his rapping in Pinnochio, as it is more of a kpop song. If you want to hear his own rap songs, check out Challan and Gottasadae. And his song Side By Side is also featured in the soundtrack of a popular korean Netflix show called Sweet Home (apocalyptic-horror type of show). BewhY is one of the top of the k-hiphop game at the moment by the way. He was the winner of a rap battle competition show a few years ago. And started his own production company called Dejavu, he produces his own songs.
