Nice reaction, glad you liked the band, they are one of my favourites. The name of the band is pronounced El-vay-tee. The Hurdy Gurdy is a string instrument where the strings are brought to vibration by a rosined wheel which is operated by the crank. With the keyboard the length and so the tone of the strings can be changed. There is a very nice interview with both vocalists for the podcast of a vocal coach where there is also a very brief explanation of the gurdy: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r2KXoXSvpKacf68 . For more Hurdy Gurdy you could check out Michalina Malisz's (the Eluveitie hurdy gurdist) YT-channel. But be careful because she did some playthroughs for Eluveitie songs (and some covers of the before she was invited to join the band in 2016) and wouldn't like to spoil future reactions. She played an awesome cover of "Martyr" by August burns Red on the gurdy too. She also has her "5Riffs"-series where she plays riffs from famous metal bands on the hurdy gurdy. She also did a Q&A for her 60k subscribers where she talks a bit how she joined the band kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmfdno2olsqqh7s . The main theme of Eluveite is the history and culture of the continental Celts in Europe, mainly the tribe of the Helvetii, as the band is from Switzerland.. They also do pure Folk style songs without any metal (Evocation I:The Arcane Dominion and Evocation 2: Pantheon are their folk albums). These songs are sung in Gaulish, the extinct language of the Celts that could be reconstructed by using inscriptions found at archeological sites from all over Europe. Some songs you could react to are: "The Slumber", Worship", "Ategnatos", "Ambiramus" or "Breathe" (metal), "Epona", "Lugus", "Caturix" (Folk) (new lin-up since 2016) or "Thousandfold", "King", "Quoth the Raven", "A Rose for Epona", "Inis Mona", "Tegernako" live at Summerbreeze 2008 (metal) and "Omnos", "Brictom", "Dessumiis Luge" (folk) (old line-up pre 2016). Oh, I almost forgot: there is a video for "Epona" with Gaulish and English subtitles and an explanation of who Epona was at the end of the video.

Wow thanks for the information, I'm very new to this band but their sound is definitely interesting! I specially love the combination of metal and folk.

That dear man is a Hurdy Gurdy and in my opinion it is the coolest instrument in metal :)

Like A Storm from NZ has a didgeridoo solo in their song I Love The Way You Hate Me. That's up there too ;)

If you watch/listen closely, the two singers are harmonizing when her part comes up. He is singing the same lines in the background behind her lead.

Highly influential band in the genre of folk metal. You might like the song "Epona". THAT instrument is a Hurdy Gurdy BTW. My understanding of it is that it operates like a reverse violin in that the wheel she is turning acts like the bow and the keys she presses pushes strings down onto the wheel but because it's encased within a sound box the notes come out different from an actual violin... I may be totally wrong but that's how it was explained to me.
@Mu77ley3 жыл бұрын
No, that's pretty spot on, but as well as the melody strings whose pitch is changed by the keys, there are also multiple drone strings that can be turned on/off (lifted away from the wheel basically)

Flutes have been in rock and metal since the beginning. Jethro Tull played a flute in the 60's and Black Sabbath has a song or two with a flute lead. There has been plenty of others as well.

Thats a great point! I guess Jethro Tull Is is really the only flute I have heard in harder music. This However is brutal flute.

"What is that?" The most fun way to answer that is to let her show it to you herself. "That" is this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rX-YoISeo894q6c and I love this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/kKfVc4GBg8yIq6s Spellbinding, isn't it?
