I like Eluveitie. It's Melodeath, but with flutes.

This band is utterly incredible live. The engineers did a great job of being able to hear everything

I like how you didn't say "incredibly good", and how you praise the engineers on this studio version. Because live, every time (seen them a dozen or so) the engineers absolutely shit up the mix and make it sound horrible. If they are on, particularly at a festival, do *not* go. You'll have a miserable time. Pretty much a studio-only band, until you are one to leer at Criegel-Creepels newest piece of eye candy.

@@aenorist2431 I was praising the live version I saw. I had a great time. I guess I got lucky because it was in a fairly small venue

@aenorist2431 I also haven't heard anything of him being a creep. What's with the negativity towards them?
@chorsman9 ай бұрын
DUDE SERIOUSLY. I heard them headline a show with the agonist before them, and the agonist had AWFUL eq. I thought it was the venue, but then Eluveitie played right after and they were incredibly well-balanced. You really could pick out everything separately at a small club venue.

2:47 they are from switzerland (specifically the part of celtica which was inhabited by the helvetii, not the part that was gallia... -> border where the alps, back in 50 bc...)

Imagine a hurdy gurdy like a violin (at least for the rythm strings, it has inbuilt bass and such too), but the bow is circular. The rotation of the handle drives a wheel which contacts all the different strings, vibrating them. So the staccato she played was equivalent to a really fast back and forth "sawing" motion with a violin or fiddle ... except on an instrument built to have a steady pull in one direction, so even steadier normally than a slowly played violin. The keys shorten / dampen strings, a mix of the fingers on the fret of a guitar (modulating the note up or down via the string length) and a piano (dampening strings down where required).

I always learn something from your analysis. Thank you for sharing your insight and enthusiasm for this music, Geebz. What I appreciate about Eluveitie is I can understand the harsh vocals without looking up the lyrics. Chrigel Glanzmann's vocals are superior in that aspect. 🤘

It's a real shame everyone only seems to react to this song. They do songs in reconstructed Gaulish and sing about actually Celtic things. Ambiramus is a really fun song that has Gaulish and English lyrics. Epona is not only a wonderful song about a historically and archaeologically attested Gaulish goddess in reconstructed Gaulish but the battle scene also has completely accurate armor and weapons.

@@KeyOfGeebz Oh wow. No problem. Thanks for listening. The whole draw is how authentically Celtic this Swiss metal band is. The name means "We are Helvetian." The Helvetii being the Swiss tribe whose refugee migration was used as a pretext by Caesar for invasion and genocide. Ambiramus is from the same album, Ategnatos, as Rebirth so thematically it just fits. Ambiramus meaning a journey and being a story euphemism for death which relates to the Celtic belief in reincarnation or Gaulish Ategnatos. Epona is on Evocation II: Pantheon and basically a prayer but it's the song that won me over on Fabienne after the leaving of Anna Murphy. And there are translations available for understanding the Gaulish. I look forward to seeing you react to anymore Eluveitie.

It’s actually not Gaelic it’s reconstructed ancient Gaulish. While yes that did evolve into Gaelic the dialect is still different.

The (quasi) unofficial name for the Federation of Swiss States is Helvetia. Thus Eluvietie (from the celtic people of the Helvetii) Thougn the name would be equally good as Luwetje (Cisalpine Gaul). If they can say Nydus for Nidus (Neith, Nessa, Goddess of Night) why not lol

Celtic, but not how you may think. They're Swiss. The Celts at one point were the dominant people group west of the Rhine all the way through Iberia and up into Ireland and Great Britan. So baiscally pre Germanic Switzerland.
