Coping with a Rainy Day While Motorcycle Camping and 300th Video Upload! - 2023 Ep 25

This is my 300th video upload! This first 3 years I was just publishing for myself, but since 2018 it is both for me and the thousands who have found my channel. Thank you all.
Got new tires and an oil change in the last video and was ging through my records to find the stats on my tires, oil and brake pads. It's a rainy day in Barachois Pond Provincial Park. A good day of motorcycle camping with the Mini Mate tent trailer. Having the space to set up a work table inside out of the rain is a luxury. Glamping at it's finest.
Breakfast this morning is cream of wheat with dried cranberries and raisens, lunch is cracker, spiced cold cuts, old cheddar and brie. Life is tough. A pork stir fry for supper ends my meals for the day. Variety and decent food.

As long as one does not have to tear down and pack in the rain I am fine. a rainy day can be a great day to just relax. I'm shaggy again... need another haircut before I get a helmet on in the next month or so. Still so much snow here.

The MM has been such a game changer. Rain, wind, cold temps... handles them all and makes camping that much more enjoyable.

A rainy day (not a stormy day) can be a nice break just to relax. The sound of tge light rain can be hypnotic. Spending time in the camper and add-a-room, when you're solo, isn't so bad at all. I can think of great ways to spend rainy afternoons in the MM when not solo too. I'm on track to add 100 episodes just this year alone. As long as I enjoy it... not a chore yet.

Editing made me hungry too.. Absolutely no problems during this full day of rain. I did have the sleeping bags get wet earlier in the month up on the Northern Peninsula when it was rain with high winds. The bottom end of the air mattress and bottom of my sleeping bag were against the tent side. Osmosis is going to happen. I might have gotten some things wet as well as I packed up in the pouring rain. If we had not had a schedule, I would have sat tight for the day. Never have had much in the way of rain issues at all. I am doing a canvas refresh this spring just because.

@@OldGuyonaBike I had some issues on my Leasure lite. I had a bit of water seeping through and getting on underneath the mattress. I had done the Camp Dry silicon spray but still had water infiltration. Got to do some home pre testing in spring with a water hose . 😩

@@ricardoneto7789 I did have water come into the "basement". The turn signals/brake and tunning light wiring comes through into the tub behind the axle. With all the standing water I hit last summer I had a couple of times where there was an inch of water in the lowest part of the tub. I will be doig a really god gasket for that this spring during maintenance. Video, of course, will follow.

GREAT VIDEO!!!! very relaxing. Real good to take a break. Not always about the ride!!!!!! Your brake pad mileage, pulling a camper is about right. Front tire mileage is short about 8000 miles as to mine and your rear tire is about right. Are alot of your roads chip and seal? if so, chip and seal roads shorten tire life. again great video. safe ridin, rubber down.

The front was probably good for at least another 4,000 km, but I was about to start the 20,000 km part of the summer, so it made sense to change it then. Not much in the way of chip and seal here, but lots of rough pavement. We gets what we gets.

A great video. I always like looking at your setup. I do not have the add a room. But I did get the awning. I do have a large 10 x 12 tarp as you do that I can rig on other polls. I was wondering have you ever experienced being inside sleeping in your mini mate during extreme high winds? I was curious as to how stable it is being that it is so narrow and small during a strong wind. Thank you for your hard work and producing an editing these great videos. Be safe out there.

I've been in some pretty high winds and other than shaking, the Mini Mate seemed just fine. Came out in the morning to find my blue tarp knocked down but that's not a big deal. The only time I got caught with a hurricane coming across my travel path, I opted for a motel overnight. I wouldn't say I have been camping in extreme winds... just pretty gusty ones.

Thank you so much. I was planning on possibly next winter chasing 70° in the desert Southwest in Arizona and Southern California camping on BLM land. Many years ago when I camped out there in a pull-behind travel trailer I remember some pretty high winds at times that shook my little Scamp pretty good. I guess if I got too scared I could fold the camper down and sleep in the car until the winds subsided. @@chiefonelung9415 I may winter in the southwest next year and dip down into Mexico. Right now my loose plans get me to southern California in October and it starts to get a little late to ride a motorcycle back to eastern Canada. Minimum of two weeks to cross the continent hauling the tailer... I know I could do it faster, but I don't want too. Anyway, snow starts in November here so maybe I just don't head back. No permanent home to come back to anyway.

If something happens that I decide to come back to Middle Tennessee to my little homestead and farm, you would always be welcome to camp here for the winter. I have a good wood stove and plenty of room. You could use this as a home base to head to other regions of the southeast. Our Winters get a little bit cold but nothing like Newfoundland. I live real close to Fall Creek falls State Park. I have to have an eye injection once a month in my right eye for macular degeneration. Sometimes I can schedule my appointment ahead of time anywhere in the United States that has a retina specialty center. If I have difficulty scheduling I can always run back home. Be safe out there .

I had so much water on hand at that time that I didn't even think of it. While editing, I did make a note that I should pay attention to "free", "onsite" delivered water for such uses as the dishes.

Her name is "The Red Mistress". So named by a former girlfriend who thought she took up all my time and money. (gas not repairs) Oh, she's a 2005 Honda ST1300 that I bought new and put on the road in '06.

Yup, I didn't get off the road until almost the end of October and every video takes a few days to edit. It's a slow process. I should just about get through last year's footage when I hit the road this year.

Ya, kind relaxing to just listen to the rain all day when you don’t have to be anywhere. But if it were me, I would get two more extender poles and put a tennis ball on top. Then place them in center of each side of your blue tarp, if you knew what I mean. I had my zip on awning out on my Roll-a-Home when a thunder storm rolled through filling up the awning. The weight of the water ripped out the side of the tent. What a mess… Thankfully the lady that used to sew the tents for RH in the early days now lives here in Idaho so I got a new tent all sewn up.

ok , you totally lost me with the Kilometer crap on the tiees.Im american and 72 and just dont care about metrics at all.For me its miles ,inches,ounces,etc.,etc.

As a Canadian I am even more lost. I measure my travel in kilometres per mile, distance in kilometres, lumber in feet and inches, my weight in pounds, my liquor in litres, dope in grams, steaks in pounds and ounces, I am bilingual in temperature using both Celsius and Fahrenheit, tire pressure in psi... I have to keep an app on my phone to just do conversions. I often put the conversions in my videos but not all the time.
