Isn't it strange being the same age as old people?? I see people that are 10 years younger than I am that can't get around nearly as well as I do. In most cases, it's because they quit doing things to stay active. Some basic first aid training and CPR training is good to have. Even carrying a basic first aid book with you can prove to be life saving sometime. Merry Christmas. Thanks for bringing us along

Age is really a state of mind. As you say, there are lots of people chronologically younger who are way older than I am. I really need to do a refresher course. Thanks for coming along.

I did not know where Terry fox stopped but he certainly has had a spot in my heart because his story was told every year in my highschool years.

I followed his story in real time starting just after he left Atlantic Canada. Both heartbreaking and inspiring.

Thanks for sharing and we will catch you on the next video. Hope you enjoy the rest of your Christmas. PS: I will try to visit the moose in 2025. Cheers!

It's well worth a stop at the store if you are doing the northern Lake Superior route. I'm too well aware that old friends are dropping... heck, I don't know what tomorrow is really going to bring me either. Touch base with who you can even if it is just in passing thru.

Choosing friends over family. Many find that strange, but as you mention, the memories shared can often be stronger and more powerful than family ties. Anything west of Ontario can only get better.

Will say hi to Henrietta for you this coming June. Wife and I are doing the Superior loop on Goldwing from Mn. Good point on 1st aid kit and training. I am like you and have rudimentary kit along. Disney??? What can we say......off the rails of late!
@OldGuyonaBike4 күн бұрын
Enjoy the Superioer loop. I've been meaning to do the southern shore and may have to in 2026. Yes, say hello to Henrietta and enjoy some fudge. As soon as I am living in a more populated area I will look up First Aid training. It's been 15 years or more so I need more than a refresher. The thing with Disney was a few years ago. The White River statue is a trademarked cartoon Winnie the Pooh. It turned out to be very bad publicity for Disney. They dropped it.

This video brings back a lot of old memories. We used to go moose hunting with an Uncle that lived in Marathon but has since passed away. I think it's been almost 30 years since I've been up there and thought many times about doing a tour up that way. How was the black flies?
@OldGuyonaBikeКүн бұрын
Until you mentioned black flies I didn't even think about the fact that I saw almost none. Not while riding or while camping. Mid-July must be the time to travel. When I lived in Thunder Bay I do remember May and June being thick with flies.

Does Canada have any free camping on national land similar to the US's Bureau of Land Managent? Your Provincial park are expensive!
@OldGuyonaBike4 күн бұрын
We do but possible sites are not as well mapped out as in many areas of the US. Ontario and British Columbia are the most expensive. Most provinces are in the $25 Cdn range i.e. about $19.50 USD. In Newfoundland with my seniors discount it gets down to under $16 Cdn/night. I do have the BLM guidebook and the National Forest Campground books, nothing equivalent in Canada. One of my worries is the condition of the roads going into a lot of places. A lot of free camping here is accessed by logging roads and you can imagine the shape they are in especially after a few days of rain.

Thanks for the offer and Merry Christmas. I won't have the beast in a place I can work on her until April. There are some parts I have got or am ordering in prep for that. Replacing both starter relays... other relays. Tracing an electrical glitch. Fibreglassing a cracked bottom of one saddlebag. Hopefully nothing major. Might need need mufflers.

@@jamesdwyer6701 I had something go through the back of my left saddlebag while on this trip. I know it's plastic but was able to do a pretty good repair with fibreglass on the road. One more crack to fix that I missed. Alternator was done just before I bought the bike. Should be good for another 100,000 kms.

Hello Jim. I am thinking about a motorcycle trip out to NFLD. I'd like to pick your brain on a few different things. How might I get in touch with you?
@OldGuyonaBike4 күн бұрын
There is an email at the end of the video description. I'm mostly staying on the island this summer and thinking of doing a semi guided tour for people. Should be announcing that in the early new year.
@gcragg114 күн бұрын
Hi Jim, Weve talked before. Im also an ol guy on a bike...pulling a popup. I never stay at campgrounds. Unless they're at my destination and I'm staying there awhile ( Sturgis. The Okanogan various National Parks etc.) I dont find I need them, they dont enhance the sense of adventure I crave, I don't like being grouped in with others like that etc. For me its a total waste of money I could put in my gas tank. We boondock an stealth camp 90% of the time. I know not everyone is comfortable doing this but... I've been doing it for 40 + yrs. Works for us. (wife an I) Id never pay 50 bucks for a campground on a travel day. No fun and Im just far too cheap. :) Motels?.. raining and very cold only. Very rarely. I'm sure you've done it some (boondock) and you have your reasons for seeking out the campgrounds. But why not do it more? just curious. God ?!!...was it really 44 yrs ago Terry Fox ran? wow!! time flies. Thanks again fur sharing Jim.
@OldGuyonaBike4 күн бұрын
This past summer was more about the travel and less about the camping. I got a lot of things off my bucket list but I did miss a lot of camping. This year, the concentration will be on the camping. My main hesitancy with stealh camping or boondocking with the Mini Mate and this heavy bike is the condition of the roads to get to campsites. Most here in Canada seem to be accesed by logging roads (northern Ontario and Newfoundland). They are usually in too rough of shape for me to venture on. For single night stops I also am not ready to put in the time to search for spots. Although retired and having time, there were a few constrants on the first few weeks this year. I would like to do more camping outside of regulated campgrounds and have been working on making my rig more and more self sufficient. My comfort zone is regular campgrounds although I will bitch about how expensive they are especially in Ontario, British Columbia and California. We'll see how I evolve over the next couple of years.

😢Only kingga and aleona greeted merry Christmas to her viewers and subscribers but itchy boots, krikkos it seems they don't care about the celebrations.
@OldGuyonaBike4 күн бұрын
I was planning on doing a special Christmas video but, time and circustances were against me. Kinga is very personable and she always feels like she is connecting directly. Noraly is a bit more show and tell. She's also about 3-4 weeks behind when her videos post so I suspect with the drama of almost losing her bike and the upcoming repairs she may not have planned a Christmas message in advance. Two different riders and I enjoy them both. Merry Christmas to you and yours.
